Dear Friends,

I have moved to a new place.

Now I have to park Starlet EP91 without any shelter.

Only protection I see is buying a car cover, but last time I had a bad experience with that. It spoiled the paint.

In the internet, I see there are good car covers to purchase.

Do you have any idea where I can find a good car cover locally ?

What do you mean it spoiled the paint? did it cause swirl marks? or was it moisture damage?

You can avoid the moisture related probs by using a breathable car cover. However breathable car covers are not water proof

I use a Covercraft cover on my Cobalt, it was provided to my by the dealer so I have no idea how much it costs. However I have never had issues with damaged paint or anything else, and I believe it's waterproof as well, because I used it during last year's tornadoes and the car wasn't wet despite the pelting rain.

hmm it took me while to figure this out ,what with the cobalt and the tornados...haha...guess you must be american...

anyways i have one very expensive cover and a cheap car cover, the expensive one is still flawless and going on 3 years now...the cheapo i bought off a guy selling them on the street...it did fairly well for a coupla months then the material started to come off like a powder, the car looked like it had dandruff...lol...now i use it to cover the rusted old crocs...so go for a branded imported one if possible.

Oh no, not American. I'm 100% Sri Lankan, hailing from the City of Gems. I was rudely transplanted there a few years ago, but I try my best spend as much time on the Motherland as possible :D

I too needed some covers and went to Naw**a Cushi*** Wor*** last month.

I wanted a one outdoor cover and one Indoor.

They said teh indoor cover no problem and got one,

but they do not have any thing for teh outdoor, they can not give a guarantee as

many customers who hv used 100% out door have come back and bought covers again as the life span is anything about 2 to 6 months the max. So they did n't recomend and I am searching as well.

I am planning to check in UAE & Singapore as they got similar or worst climate conditions than SL as the European covers may not serve the purpose too much.

Youre lucky the only thing the car wasn't was wet....with tornadoes hovering around it might have gone 'missing' :D

Couldn't resist that he he.

i'm afraid i have no idea when he's coming back mate...this guy returns to SL at irregular intervals to visit his family and brings some stuff to sort of cover the expenses and such...BUT the dude has this habbit of calling my father before he comes,so if that happens in the near future i'll be sure to notify you.

Hi

Any advice where to get a good car cover for total outdoor use.

Appreciate your advice.

thanks

Few months ago, I was using a good car cover which was waterproof & had a fabric inner lining. I used to leave it in the garden when taking the car out. Unfortunately, one night, a stray cat had urinated on the cover, and unknowingly, I placed the cover on the car. When I opened the cover after 2 days, the paint in the area with the urine was burnt, and even had bubbles. I had to repaint the entire boot lid :( So, you gotta be very careful when using car covers. It is better to put up a temporary shed.

Well thankfully downtown Atlanta bore most of the brunt, I'm located in a suburb about 15 miles north, we only received heavy rainfall and somewhat strong winds, similar to what we experienced in SL this past week.

Ok fellows,

I bought a car cover from Arpico taking the risk again.

I took the one, which labeled for Starlet and it was too too small to put.

Today Iam going to change it to a 110 cover (may be) and put to starlet

I'll be able to tell you what happened after using it.

my poor car ....

gents I'm prone to advise against any cover, be it branded or not, if the car is parked outside. Rather try erecting a little shed with a sheet roof on it

if you use a waterproof, it protects the car from rain but traps moisture rising from the ground

if you use a breatheable one, it releases trapped moisture but you get no protection from rain

either way, your car will rust

my dad used a good branded waterproof cover on his beloved KE72 after it got pushed out of the garage to make room for his new car. In just 4 months there were many rust spots on the body.

had a nasty experience with a car cover as well -twas on the Carina - nothing fancy, something bough locally - dunno how it happened but bottom line is that after a few weeks the thing had stuck to and burned into the paint thus necessitating a paint job! :(

Hi, thank you for diiging up,, I am still in the hunt for covers.

See, if you do the waxing, it will sort the paint / exterior to an extent,

my issue is other than that interior, chrome parts etc,,

Posted

Sorry to dig this up.

But my car is parked in the sun during office days for about 4 hours. Is it better to buy a car cover or safer to wax it once a month? what would ensure my paint would last longer in great shape?

Posted

Cannot exactly remeber the exact name... but somethin I bought from a shop in front of St. Josephes college...

It had a interior padddinf which do not make any scratch maks to the paint .... seems alright 4 me... Brand was RR in red letters... not sure exacly...

interior can be protected using windshield covers etc.

Has any one parking cars in sunny car parks experienced any oxidation of the paint even after waxing?

machang, the kind of damage you are referring to happens when there is long term exposure with no proper maintenance. Day to day exposure is not an issue. My car is in the sun from 9am to 6pm... most of the week. There is no escape from that. There is no marked change in the paint color. Nor have I experienced such drastic changes in the past.

But interior plastics tends to discolor a bit if no care is taken to protect them. Use window shades or apply a commercially available protectant. Not 100% protection but at least it will prolong the inevitable...

Its metal and plastic.. it will break/crack/fade/warp sooner or later. :)
