I could, but I'm not seeing the point of a brand comparison. These companies manufacture flat out supers cars to SUVs.

well let us rephrase it then.......they want to compare the best out of the best..... :D

Most high end european brands have been pioneers in the development of diesel engines. This mainly due to the significant demand for diesels in europe. And of the lot, mercs and bimmers have been in the fore front. These two brands are hands down way superior in terms of refinements, economy and power output than their other euro counterparts

so an Ad in Autolanka of a 530D and the price was 5.7mil i guess, its quite worthy

Well, compared to the exorbitant prices quoted for most japs these days, a 8,000 mile 530d priced at that level could look like a good deal for the right buyer

BMW diesel engines as a matter of fact BMW engines are award winners. The 2.0 turbo diesel (20d) 3.0 turbo diesel (30d) and the 3.0 twin turbo diesel (35d or 40d) are all the leading power trains in it's class.

I'm not arguing the superiority of BMW diesels but you DO know that '20d' or '30d' are not engines right? there's a number of 2ltr engines and a number of 3ltr engines :)

A small FYI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_BMW_engines

?? Mate what you on about? What I listed was accurate. Your wiki link does nothing in the way of explaining what you are trying to explain. I just kept it simple as those engines were the relevant units to SL. Well maybe not the 35d :D. However I did forget the 18d which comes in the 3 series and the X1 for the permit.

The BMW 2.0 TD engine (1995cc) comes in various stages of tune in present production.

1.) 16d - 114/116 HP

2.) 18d - 141/143 HP

3.) 20d efficient dynamics - 163/181 HP - 1,3,5,X1

4.) 20d - 177/181/184 HP - 1,3,5,X1,X3

5.) 23d - 201/204 HP - 1,X1

6.) 25d - 214 HP - 5

The BMW 3.0 TD engine (2993cc) Comes in the below stages of tune.

1.) 25d - 194/204 HP - 3 (soon to be discontinued as the 2.0L 25d is taking over the reigns).

2.) 30d - 241/245/255 HP - 3,5,7,X3,X5,X6

3.) 35d - 281/286/295/308 HP - 3,5,X3

4.) 40d - 306 HP - 7,X5,X6

BMW are working on a tri turbo 3.0L diesel which may power a diesel M5 variant the 7 series, X5, and the X6.
