500 Abarth Asetto Corse

Abarth's 1.4-litre T-Jet engine with its Garrett Turbo & reinforced internals will put out a stunning 197bhp, with 220lb ft of torque!

sent to the front wheels via a six forward box onto 17-inch white-painted forged aluminium rims.

The Asetto Corse will come complete with a full roll cage and a racing seat mounted further back in the car for better weight distribution as well as some Aero parts

Sadly Abarth is only building a mere 50 Asetto Corses.

Plans are afoot to have a single-make race series for next year.

I believe its for the one make race series. I think Abarth - now that it is a separate brand, will off various factory approved kits that can be added on after market. Just like in the old days. The Grande Punto Abarth is the first example. The standard car is 155 bhp and you can upgrade it with the SS kit to take it upto 180.

The Paris show is likely to see the unveiling of a hotter Esseesse ("SS") version of the Abarth 500!

Specs are said to read - 157bhp & 170lb ft of torque from a 1.4L Turbo charged unit with 62mph coming up in just 7.4 seconds, half a second quicker than the standard Abarth 500.

Ride height has been lowered and a front-wheel limited slip diff has been added to keep the torque steer in check!

& for the eco brigade the news is good there as well with the new Esseesse sipping a fuel at rate of a gallon for every 44 miles traversed whilst emitting just 155g/km of CO2!

The Esseesse should cost around £16,000, with the kit to upgrade an already-bought 500 (so long as it's less than 12 months and 12,000 miles old) available for around £3,000.

These are what the SS bits and bobs arrive in before being fitted to the lucky 500.

How cool to get your performance bits in a wooden box with the Scorpion mark! really great to see Abarth back. It's meant to be the raw low cost performance option. Amazing what Carlo Abarth did with humble Fiats. They won many Touring car Championships for their class among many many races and hill climbs.

Check out this awesome vid with an epic battle between what seems like a 1000TC battling with a Alfa Giulia from a higher class. There's a BMW 1600 as well that seems to have retired. Fantastic racing!

Abarth launches the 500 R3T, 178bhp rally car set to star in a one-make series

Abarth has revealed its Fiat 500-based rally car. This is the Abarth 500 R3T, and it will star in a one-make series (as well as potentially appearing in other rallies) from next year.

It comes type approved for Group R3T (hence the name), a class that covers turbocharged cars with an engine that’s 1.6-litre or smaller. In fact, it takes its engine from the regular, road-going Abarth 500. That means a 1.4-litre, but the R3T benefits from the fitment of a Garret fixed geometry turbocharger that boosts power to 178bhp – 20bhp more than the highest powered official 500, the Esseesse.

The engine comes mated to a sequential six-speed transmission, with a twin-plate clutch and self-locking differential. Smart 17in OZ alloys shroud Brembo disc brakes with four-pot calipers. The suspension is highly adjustable, with racing shock absorbers and tweakable ground clearance and caster/camber angles. The idea is to make a car that can be ideally suited to each of its drivers’ individual driving styles.

The drivers in question are intended to be private racers, and young ones at that – those who want to prove themselves in a bona fide racing car. Group R3T is ideal for balancing pretty potent power with more attainable running costs, and it’s a class that’s predicted to have a bright future. It has a 1080kg minimum weight figure, which the Abarth hits perfectly, meaning it boasts 167bhp/ton.

It gets a typically Italian livery, and integrates itself perfectly into the current Abarth range with stripes aplenty. The promotional trophy it stars in follows years of tradition, featuring an eclectic mix of racing Fiats past – from the Uno Turbo to the titchy Cinquecento and rather unloved Stilo.

A full timetable of the Abarth 500 R3T’s trophy with be released in the coming weeks. If it’s not quite your cup of tea though, fear not – Renaultsport offers up the Clio R3 if you fancy honing your rallying skills in something a bit more French.

Guys,

One of my neighbouring businesses modifies and tunes Subaru's, the owner is a serious enthusiast and a proper petro head! His wife recently treated herself to a brand new Fiat 500 Abarth, Just the same grey paint as in one of the pictures above, what a great little car! Fantastic and even gets the husband impressed, Fiat makes some really great cars, specially little ones, the punto is outstanding! and for any Japanese Tin box fans-don't even try to compare, not in the same league, to mention a cherry in the same conversation as in a 500 is sacrilage! And yes I did own a cherry once a 120 A and been in many fiats including the Bug Fiat mentioned above, all cars with character unlike the the soulless Jap cars.
