  1. I'm guessing that the Altima was styled in the US in their LA design studio by Americans like the Murano if i'm not mistaken! As Clarkson probably would say, Americans cannot design cars! I'm no expert but I think the Altima has too many styling cues! The rip-off Hoffmeister kink, fastback styling, a low nose and what looks like a extremely tapered front end!
  2. Sad thing about these permit cars is that EVERYBODY gets down the SAME car and practically ruins it for everyone else! Case in point, the 520d!
  3. Google! These are not rare cars! Anyway, go to the Mercedes Benz UK website, choose the model, and find the Configurator link and then you can find the basic options for a the model that you choose. IMO Audi's are better in every way, less common and have more options as standard compared to a Merc or BMW.
  4. Toyota Corona/Carina AT170. The Corona is the slightly more "luxurious" version. Try to get one under a million.
  5. Have you tried Eur0Nipp0n in Wadduwa? They area large operation and they have everything! But a bit expensive. Give them a buzz and see.
  6. No, theres two. This car was originally from Kuwait AFAIK. There's also another 928S as well. Rs 6 mil is a bit optimistic really! Clarkson brought a barely running version for 1500 pounds on Top Gear!!! The one in Kithulgala is not a 928 but rather a 944. Its somewhat looks similar but actually two entirely different models.
  7. Accord, Civic and City fall in three diffrent classes of cars. Accord is a large mid size car, relatively luxurious, low kmpl, not much of a second hand market. The Civic is a compact car, which is smaller than the Accord, and the City is a sub-compact which is smaller than the Civic. So what you should really figure out first is what type of car you want. If you want a large car go for a Accord, but at the expense of fuel economy and resale value. If you want a compact car with decent fuel consumption and a good second hand market, then go for a Civic. Judging by your budget its best that you go for a Civic EG8. If your lucky maybe you can get a decent EK3 for that price. Parts can be found anywhere! These are not rare cars like Alfa Romeos! Its always wise make sure to keep some money in hand for repairs.
  8. Pictures and details PLEASE! This is insane! A Miura in SL! Anyhow since there was a 1930's Rolls brought down recently and running with KS-XXXX or KR-XXXX plates (Can't remember) this can actually be quite true. Must be quite an petrol-head to import a Miura. Only 764 were ever made!
  9. There is no cable or sensor you have to check. You only have to replace a particular IC behind the rev meter. Thing is its not easy to get access to the IC, you have to remove most of the dashboard. An competent auto electrician will be able point out which is the burnt IC. And even if you do that you will have to find a replacement for that IC. I too tried to repair my rev-meter in my Corona AT150 while had some electrical niggle sorted out. Since the electrician took out most of the dash, asked him to look into it. But I couldn't find a replacement IC anywhere. And I'm sorry I misplaced the IC part No. So if you really want a working rev meter you will have to fit a new meter panel for the AT-150. Thing is the car is already 25+ years old and there is no guarantee that the replacement part might work. Anyway let me know if you do manage to fix your rev-meter.
  10. Cali, If you really really MUST have an electric car in Sri Lanka why not the Chevy Volt? IMO its much better than the Tesla because it can do about 40miles on just the battery and once you run outta juice you can use the tiny 1.4l petrol engine to recharge the battery. Unlike the Prius the wheels are powered by the electric motor at all times. And it whats more its avaliable in RHD because they sell it as the Vauxhall/Opel Ampera in UK/Europe. And because we have 230V here instead of 110V in the States, you can charge the battery in half the time! And its cheap! I just saw today on a website. You can have one for $159 a month WITHOUT a down payment! (Because of slow sales, and going green and buying a Prius is something like a fashion statement in the US) Oh and BTW please check out Top Gear Series 17, Episode 6 where Jezza and May test the Leaf and an electric Peugeot in REAL LIFE. Cheers
  11. I just remembered people do this to heavily undercompressed diesel engines to start them. I knew this guy who carried around a bottle of petrol with him to start his Townace in this way, untill he could get it overhauled. Back to the topic. I've seen W123 Diesels running on bio-diesel on tv. But its just largely unpractical. I don't want to spend my day straining mucky oil with bits of 5 day old chicken to save a few rupees!
  12. I'm no chemistry grad, but I remember my fuel pump guy telling me that buses put in a bit of petrol to get a "boosting" effect. And thats why the leyland buses have a noticable high pitched exhaust note. Thats because of the petrol. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
  13. Sorry there is something wrong with my internet. Anyway personally I think your brother is better off with a Civic. Too many Allion/Premios on the road. Will be harder to resell if you actually think about it.
  14. Terrabytetango, I believe what DVT is refering to is the power to weight ratio.
  15. hello everyone! Can anyone please identify this car? I'm guessing its a mazda of some sort.. Definitely not a Honda Perlude. Saw a 13 Sri series of this car also few days back!
  16. Was this on the left turn signal? If so it probably could be an aftermarket corner lamp or flag pole light as its commonly known.. I'm not too sure though. When the corner lamps are broken or removed some people just stuff the wiring an lights inside!
  17. With the learners permit, the holder can only drive with 1. L boards fitted on the front and back of the vehicle (The RMV gives the L boards after you pass the driving written exam.) and 2. A competent driver with a valid drivers license sitting on the passenger seat.

  20. Hey guys how easy is it to put a D21 body on a '84 Datsun? I've seen many converted D21's with 28 Sri Plates. I'm quite keen on the the idea and can someone please provide me some insight on the matter? How much does a complete D21 body go for these days? (with interior) and What if I import my own body from Japan? Is it possible? Do I have to apply for a body permit? Thank you!
  21. Hello everyone I have this idea of buying a petrol Mercedes W123 and converting the same into diesel. I checked out most W123's an found out most of them were already converted locally ages ago.. and most of the diesel W123's have a LOT of miles on them and I think buying one of those will turn up to be a nightmare cz already its a 30+ year old car. The few ones in good condition go for absurd prices (I saw one seller asking for 15 lakhs!). Even the converted ones go for around 9-12 lakhs. Petrol ones on the other hand go for less and are used sparingly (I saw a mint condition W123 advertised for 575k in the classifieds). Can some one please advise me on this matter? And recommend me any good garages that specialize in Mercs an converting them? I intend on transplanting a Toyota 2C diesel engine because I think its quite hard to find an original Mercedes diesel engine now. And can somebody give me a rough idea about the conversation process? I need a diesel car cz I travel to Colombo from outstation on a daily basis. And also I have a extremely limited budget to go with it. I know its far more sensible buying a japanese diesel car but I love W123s! and its worth the pain:) Thank you!
  22. According to my mechanic the Noah is very popular because spare parts are readily available anywhere. I've used one and its quite easy to live with. Nomally front engined vans have loads off issues regardin engine access but in the noah everythin is within easy grasp not tucked under in the depths of the engine compartment like the delica or the serena! And the 2C 1996cc engine is definitely a bit underpowerd! You can feel the strain under load. If you can go for the 3C but i think its a bit hard to find cz most of the vans out there are 2C. And most vans are manual converted. Very few come with original manual. Suggest you go for an auto. Its a Toyota so its realiable! and easy to fix if it does break down! And has a good market value aslo.
  23. well IMO I prefer manual boxes but its fast dying out. Even the latest Ferraris come with automated manuals, not traditional manuals. In a few years manual boxes will be totally obsolete in the west! Pros: You have more control over the engine. and you can get a bit more mpg out of a manual box. Automatics are the easiest to live with.. and is great for daily driving but it gets a bit less mpg. CVT is the future. Ive never driven one. But i read its much more smoother an much more efficient than traditional manuals an automatic boxes. Simply put its an automatic box which continuously changes and adjusts according to engine load. There is no "1" gear. There is an infinite number of gears. (I hope my info is accurate! Please correct me if im not!)
  24. Hey guys! Can anyone please tell me the exact difference between the Hiace Commuter and Grand Cabin (New model Super Long Wheelbase). Toyota Lanka wasnt very helpful an so wasnt the internet! The Trim an versions of JDM vehicles is very confusing! And also just out of curiosity what is the difference between the Townace an Liteace (CR-41)? Thanking in advance!
