Hey 360_Cruiser... U did nice job... U can now hire ur new baby for weddings also... see mine...

For MasterDon and jdnet,

Its my best friends wedding. That's why i did this thing to this ride. we are never going to disgust to old cars. Me and my friends have two VW 1300 cars, 1958 morris minor, Modified VW Transporter (Rupavahini Model), 1961 Austin Cambridge, 1972 Corona Mark 2. So we are always respect to old wheels... This thing we just did only for fun... :angry-smiley-024:

seriously? spray-painting your mirrors, front&rear lights and indicators is fun? spray-painitng more stuff and having over-spray on the body and bumpers is fun? Your best friend might have been the one who got laid that night, but i bet you were probably the one who was f**ked when it came to putting that car back to normal.

I had my VW specialist in Nawala, Senanayake avenue. Wonder he is still there.

The fellow is still working but he's not at Nawala anymore . Now he's living in Homagama I guess, and comes to colombo when he gets some work :)

Thank you!

wow.. havent seen a beetle in such good original condition in some time..

there is a doctor in my neighborhood who collects VW's he got 2 Beetles just like this

nice one dude.. your lucky to find one like this :D

Thanks. Yeah, I checked a lot of doctor owned car's before finding this one. There seems to be a lot of doctors who like Beetles :-)

Hey 360_Cruiser... U did nice job... U can now hire ur new baby for weddings also... see mine...

Thanks. I will pass on that one though! :-)

Thats a great buy.looking very simple. Please attend to chrome work and she is going to be great!

MINIACE

Thanks. Yeah, that's the plan, once I clear out the mechanical problems off the table.

superb car mate and worth every Ruppee you spent on purchasing it,which part of Sri Lanka did you find such a classic?

only think apart from the bumper job would be to fix a decent stereo set lik pioneer or jvc and the car will complete!!!

Thank you. Bought this one off of a neighbor who lives close to Marawila. I am thinking of finding a retro looking stereo with those meters that came stock on old cars.

wowwwwwwwww......... machang it is great to c a sweet babe like this after sometime........in original condition....

See mine

Thanks. Your's looks very familiar! was this on sale on some website?

Nice looking ride!- I'd forgotten how uncluttered and beautifully sculpted the dash is...kudos on the purchase!! :grinning-smiley-003:

Thanks. Yeah, dash is super simple on these cars! Absolutely love it. Mine has a RPM gauge fixed by someone else though!

congratulations 360_Cruiser with your purchase and it is good to see a vw beetle in original good condition. :)

Thank you!

Lovely car....congratulations. Grab a copy of John Muir's "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" off the net and u won't put a foot wrong with repairs and restroration.

Thanks. Sure will do that!

Snow spray or not, whatever. There are a few classic VW enthusiasts here and none of them would ever treat their cars like a bloody fruit salad and regard it as a joke.

And no.The quantity of cars you and your friends own does not impress me.

Running a VW for 10 years, the one tool I never regreted buying was the big 3/4 inch drive socket for the nut on the back wheel hubs....was it a 32mm or a 36mm??? can't remember off hand. Also learnt the hard way that the cheap South American mufflers were just a waste of time. The importance of keeping intact and complete the tin-ware around the engine on these vehicles was something that wiser heads drummed into me.

Muir's book on Vdubs is/was a delight. He was an old hippie who started out running junker beetle cars and kombis in the 60s. A really readable author...the kind of book u can read for fun as well as for detailed information. I found his stuff really complemented the workshop manuals 'cos he knew the tricks of the trade in fixing/maintaining a Vdub...like cutting a flap in the framehead so u could readily replace a snapped clutch cable without being a contortionist.

Muir had some interesting ideas, he recommended that if u were buying a VW to sit down beside it for a while and absorb the car's karma. He them said that even if you couldn't pick up the vibes it would drive the seller nuts! A bit of a lad, really.

36mm if early style, 46mm if later style(68 and newer) :D

Sadly, you're right, you can do whatever you want to your car. But when you post a "oooh look how clever I am" post on an Automotive forum with pictures of how you've messed up an iconic car, well let's just say you shouldn't expect everyone here to go

"lol ya machane nice ridezzz" or some such nonsense. This ain't elakiri.com y'know....

indeed; but all this flak only came about because of your "suggestions or advices" (sic) to another beetle owner to do what you had done, and the subsequent rejection of it.

so, yes, you can do whatever you like with your car, but people here don't seem to want to know.
