I was wondering whats the oldest car/s in the country which are in daily use and not a collectors item stored in garages

i can think of Morris Minors with old english no's like EN,EL etc, some old Fiat 1100's ,VW's (oval rear windscreen model) does anyone know of anyothers wold be great if you give details like which part of the country and model series etc

I know that this wont interest people who are into Hybrids and fuel consumption :action-smiley-060:

Used to see a well maintained black Austin A30 on 120 bus route on daily basis, sometimes back.

Well it depends more on the owner than the car in my opinion.Almost all cars can be used as daily drives if maintained properly. For example,I use me MG A(when not raining) and Magnette for my daily drive up and down Kiribathgoda and Kadawatha four five times a week despite them being somewhat unreliable cars.

'MasterDon',

I had one MG A 45 years ago only thing I have to carry extra petrol few gallons because they were not very good on petrol I never had problems in long runs to North and South. Roads were not that much good like today. Magnette you have single Carburetor or twin I think they came with double. Mr.Cedric Senviratne who is still living in his mid 80 at Walkers used to fix single SU carburetor by changing the M/F,

Congratulations keep that baby running one day it will be an antique,

by the way it is better to keep them running than in the garage cause disuse increases repairs dosen't it

I have two Mags,ZA,ZB...both are twin carbs.Yes converting them to single carb would incrrease reliabilty and fuel economy, but I'd rather keep them original.

Really?...you think so...because I was gonna sell them before you shared your wisdom with me...now I'm gonna keep them.Thank you oh great one.

I know of a gentleman who use his frog-eye sprite as a daily driver.

Not the oldest car running but possible one of the very few daily runner sprites... if not the only one.

Hopefully someday, I'll own the oldest car in daily use!

On a more realistic note, I've been looking for a while, for a classic car as a semi-daily or weekend runner (translation: to work and back max twice a week, cos I already have my regular rides). I had a Mini in the past as a daily runner but it can't be called a classic. I am hoping for an 'English Number' one :D

Apart from the classic VW Bugs, Morris Minors and Fiat 1100s any other recommendations? Don't care much about the 1100 cos it resembles that horrific Indian car. How would be the reliability factor of a 6V Bug?

Sylvi, it's idiotic actions like you describe that gives endless headaches to present day owners who want to restore these machines the way they are supposed to be. These were PERFORMANCE cars of their time for heaven's sake.... Idiots like you whose only concern was squeezing the last mile out of a gallon should have stuck to your Bullock carts.

You should know how to address a member first of all. There is no option I should have to address same way how you addressed to me.But to respect you I have cut off same ##### Word in my post.

Present day ##### do not understand what I wrote in my post I said that the twin Carburetors were modified to single Carburetor at M/s,Walker sons Garage at Kollupitiya former Works manager in that garage. In my post there was nothing like fuel saving matter what you write. There were no petrol stations like today in out of Colombo that is the reason i said I had to carry for long distance running extra petrol cans. It is pity the way you understood my post and your unwanted way of addressing to me.

I don't run my vehicle to get maximum from a liter of gasoline.I have enough asserts to live comfortably. Yes I am proud to say My forefathers had fleet of Bullock carts to transport Tea from Avissawella to Lee Hedges Tea Stores in Kollupitiya. Race carts and Bakki carts for private use.Still one of my relation who lived in Dehiwala junction grand son had preserved one Race cart for future generation.

Well your right about the Fiat 1100's as the Indian company borrowed their design for the Premier Padmini cars :ninja:

Well you can go in for Peugeot 203's,Morris Oxfords (but not really a classic as they were 7 SRI ones mostly)

You can try Hillman minx's (3 Sri Ones)

But for English no classics you might have to restrict yourself to Austin A40 Devon (if you can find one for sale!)

Ford Prefects and Anglias (reliability can be an issue here)

The Oval VW bug is a good option too

Hopefully someday, I'll own the oldest car in daily use!

At the Italian car show couple of months back there was this guy who had an old Fiat (don't know the model, but it had an X series registration) which is used regularly for wedding hires
