Dehiwela Hii Street - Amila tyre shop just passing the karagamitya junction when you go from Dehiwela (most of the times thye will want you to buy all 4 tyres and not sell 1 or 2 ) but depends on who you ask ,thye get some good used tyres

Ravindra tyre shop before karagampitya jucnion when you go from Dehiwela - they sell singles but availability depends on your luck

Wellwatte - Marine drive battery shop sells used tyres too

Maligawatte - Dont go there as they tend to re-groove the thread and sell ,its very dangerous for driving on main roads and high speeds

Don't buy USED Tyres and used shockshobers. they can't use successfully.

i dnt know about shockshobers.., but for tyres, for me its always successfull, just check the tyre very carefully before buying. some malay street guys giving 2-3 month guarantee as well.

Regrooved tyres is a deathwish IMO. Used tyres can be risky too. No point having warranty if your dead. Unless you want to come back & try to haunt them.

Would anybody buy a used pair of shoes here on AL???

Buying a used tyre is like buying a used shoe...

Why would some1 change a tyre? either coz its wasted to an an almost unusable condition or an issue with it such as a bubble, crack etc... Now people who wanna go buy these tyres are risking there car's reliability...

Just spend a few more thousand and get brand new tyres as vehicle reliability is an important principle if u own a car...

This is not necessarily the case, there are some very rich dudes out there who would change the complete set well before the thread wear indicator appears. I could also be that one tyre bursts/big puncture, and some prefer to replace all 4 at once. So 3 fairly good tyres get thrown away. Also you get guys who would change the rims even on new vehicles.

But the real problem is since rubber deteriorates with time the thread wear is not always a good indicator of how good the tyre is. This is especially the case for 4x4 tyres where the spare tyre is exposed to the sun, but has very good thread.

Want 205x55R16 low profile. Last time bought from D*MO Michelin, price was about 100k for all 4. So I was wondering what to do this time. Just want to check some places out there. I will check the places you all mentioned. Thanx loads guys.

I've used used tyres but after thinking back it was just waste of money and when I want to go somewhere, I have to think twice, as tyres are not good.

The used tyres you find in shop mostly are not that good ones, unless you are lucky. Most tyres are worn out un-evenly only a side or so. The best thing would be, if you can't afford to buy 4 brand new tyres, otherwise buy at least two tyres and after few months or few weeks, go for another two tires.

Used tires are just a waste of money if you are planning to use the vehicle a long time.

go for a korean/ thailand tyres (roadstone, brigistone), should be able to run nearly 35000km

those are available tyre stores located around the SUGATHADASA stadium.......... "PRIN*E is the cheapest place"

price should be somewhere around 15000 per tyre

from the same area you can buy used tyres- but check the edge and the year of manufacture of the tyre before you buy it, do not go for very old tyre

How many people do u know who has done this??? What is the probability of u getting ur hands on a good set of tyres??

U have also misunderstood my point! If ur vehicle reliability is not an issue for u then yeah go for used tyre!

Bought two used tyres from the hill street place and both blew on me. No matter how thoroughly you inspect them u can still miss something. But they are useful if the situation calls fOr it.

I got my hands on Japanese dunlops 195/45/15 for 14000 a tyre at the shop next to the laughs HQ on duplication road. They had the Malaysian Dunlop for 13,000 each. This was one year back. Car ran for almost 10,000km with those tyres and they are as good as new.
