I'm sure they might be looking at the fuel consumption display..LoL  ..even my wife used to do this..but within no time the main gas engine starts...I'm not really a fan of Prius..but fuel efficiency wise no other car can beat it...

Not necessarily -

Mind, you did say just fuel efficiency wise, not availability, acquisition price, tax, whatever else have you.

I doubt the car would sell that well here just on the grounds that its a hatch, whatever its virtues. SL market perception.

Why shouldn't all cars should get tax reductions? I mean, if hybrids are going to be the only type of cars bought by individuals in the future (and it sure seems to be heading that way), why tax cars at all? Don't tell me the only reason cars are taxed here is because of their emissions and economy.

Well im presuming the thinking behind the reduction of taxes on hybrids was to reduce the overall petrolium demand of the country. As claimed by the owners the 25km/liter figure more or less halves fuel demand of each individual that moves from a gasoline engine to a hybrid. With a majority of econobox owners opting for the cheaper hybrid alternative there can be quite a reduction in the total fuel demand of the country.

Whilst emissions may not have had much to do with the decision, imho fuel consumption most definetly did

I dont think the blue motion is exactly going to fit in here peri, especially since it doesnt have an A/C :D

doeas anyone know if there is a diffrecne in tax when it comes to petrol hybrids and diesel hybrids ?

VW and audi are doing some good work with diesel hybrids lately, if these actually hit production would definitively be much more interesting than the plain old boring prius.

tax reduction is to hybrids maybe it doesnt matter it's a petrol one or diesel one.

Well then, as you pointed out, there should be a similar tax scheme for 'normal' vehicles that are highly economical, such as kei cars.

I agree. I'm not a specialist on fuel efficiency figures, but are kei cars as fuel efficient as hybrids? i don't know what the ideal tax scheme should be to encourage the use of fuel efficient vehicles. But i agree that incentives should be provided across the board for all forms of fuel efficient vehicles, if the government objective is to reduce the country's overall fuel consumption.

A Maruti 800 can hit over 20kmpl on a long run. And I'm pretty sure these newer cars perform even better. And bikes give figures not even hybrids can match.

If a 2008 prius importing from Japan.. definitely there is a chance that the millage hit around 150,000 km or more..coz the average running on highways in Japan will be 50,000km per year minimum..but the millage of most of the cars imported to Sri Lanka , displaying around 30,000 km to 48,000 km which is unrealistic..

I think this is the case for all Cars. One of friends got a car down from Japan. His father worked on the port. When it came to Port it was 80000+ but when it was sold it was 20000+.

Y not consider a Toyota IQ which has 1000cc engine 2seater with a whooping fuel efficiency better then any bike or hybrid :D

nw that's a great city run about in my book...u can park two IQ's in one

good idea man..if a family consists of 4 people (Father ,Mother and two grown up children) parents can occupy two seats and the children can fix a trailer on the back of that car for them..what a funny sort of car that is...LOL

Well My Question is why Toyota Lanka have not thought about those things when they import Prius in those days..

Common sense tells me that the situations are quite different then and now. Further, there was no tax relief to give attractive pricing and support a sales boom when they first brought it down. Therefore it wouldn't have made sense to talk about a car which nobody was interested in.

Now that every monkey and his cousin are bringing some kind of a car down to sell (not to mention the pathetic attempts to use AL forums to sell the stuff), it's reasonable that a responsible agent keep the public informed.

Unlike a wayside car sales fellow, an agent, who ever it is, has to get about their business by keeping the entire chain (sales, infrastucture for after sales, technical training, parts, etc..) solidly in place. Hence, until these are in line it's unlikely that they'll compromise their integrety for a few quick bucks.

P.S. - In case somebody is interested, I don't represent any of these agents.

Prius is the most fuel economical car in the world. Also thats the best selling car in Japan and have overtaken the Corolla. Now you can imagine where the prius will go. Battery never fails. Then they offered 10 years warranty for 2010 model and now they talk of life time warranty. Parts are highly reliable since they make same model for US and Europe as well. A Taiwan company is setting up a highly advanced service center for Hybrids. Meanwhile Toyota Lanka and Stafford will introduce their hybrids after training their people. All big brands are coming up with Hybrid models including Mercedes, BMW, Ford etc etc. Go for Hybrids now. The present petrol car will be obsolete very soon. This is eco friendly and does 30 KM/L. wow. Check there is a ad in Auto Lanka for Prius.

I think you are not answering to the question and doing your "guerrilla marketing".

Guys,

Checkout some of the Incomplete Hybrid Ads in AL dated 12.04.2011:

I think following text complets them :D

Four wheels with inflatable tires (certified for nitrogen), 4 turn indicators with hazard option, 2 vipers with rubber blades, rear license plate illumination, boot light, large glass panel windscreen with wash facility, front and rear bumpers, 3 point seat belts with clip on option, centered radio antenna, adjutable AC vents, large floor board covered with carpet, genuine toyota / honda badge...

Also, I'm very disappointed with Honda on keeping silent on their breakthrough of the century

Just to add to that: "Grey Genuine Leather". I`ve got the same seats on mine, "Genuine Leather" My ass. You dont get "Genuine" leather on cheap Jap cars. It`s not ethical to directly point out at certain ads on AL, In-fact I suggest you remove the links, but couldn't agree with you more, these people should not mislead the public. :angry-smiley-024:

It's synthetic leather. Some people may mistake it for the real thing.

I don't really see whats so misleading in the Civic ad. It's just a list of options, albeit rather large, of the vehicle.

and just an update to the "hybrid are so economical", a person I met in N'eliya came there in a Hybrid Van (Can't remember the name looked quite nice though) he had been doing some running around in colombo and then came up to N'eliya.. he had pumped 57 liters of petrol, done 360Km's, and had to pump full tank again.. Quite interesting if you divide that and get the figures... Hybrids are definitely doing well.. :P

Buddy he has listed Power Assisted Steering as an Option...

Now how desperate you have to be to list that in 2011... :action-smiley-060:

Anyway another attraction there was that incredible "Audible Lights"

No offence on the car mate, if you are a Civic fan. Just the mentality of the seller...

Prius goes 1 step further though... Has listed "Carpets" as an option

Now thats priceless...

The seller may have gone overboard with the listing of options, but they're still legit. Sellers will employ any means necessary to sell their merchandise, this is nothing new. Some people out there still might not know anything about hybrids, and might be apprehensive when it comes to buying them. The seller may have put all those options up to show that the hybrid Civic still comes with standard options that we might find in a 'normal' Civic, to ensure a solid sale. The list looks like it's off a brochure anyway.

Btw the "audible lights on warning" is no gimmick. It means you will hear an audible tone if you remove the ignition key with the lights on. Nothing wrong with putting that up.
