Vibration Problem Due To A Leak

pewix

Question

My car was vibrating like hell so i tuned it today and after tuning my mechanic showed me a engine oil leak on one of the three holes near the start plugs. He showed me that there is no oil at all on 2 holes and he even showed me that in the middle hole there was oil dripping through so he told that there is a small oil leak in it and it needs to be repaired to stop this shit vibration. Please recommend me with a good person who could fix this problem and stop this hell vibration of my car. Thankyou in advance

'pewix',

It is a very strange diagnosis by your mechanic. The oil leak cannot give you a vibration in your car engine. Get a different opinion to your problem.

Inform make of your car and how many kilometers car had done. Where are you located.

Hey Pewix,

Based on your Air Filter thread :) I assume you are still talking about your swift.

Hope you can give a bit more clarity in the next post but based on what you have said i think this is whats going on.

1. There are oil seals that prevent engine oil from entering / splashing on to the spark plugs of the engine.

2. One of these oil seals have worn off or got damaged in this case causing oil to be splashed on to the bottom area of one of the spark plugs causing the plug not to fire properly.

3. Since one of the cylinders in your engine is not firing up in a consistent manner the engine is vibrating (miss-firing)

If the above diagnosis is correct I think the best resolution is to replace the subjected oil seal. Based on how your engine is designed you should either be able to

1. replace the oil seals directly

2. Or if the seals are integrated to your rocker cover (valve cover) the whole rocker cover should be replaced.

In this 2nd scenario, your mechanic may advice that you can take the rocker cover to a workshop and get the oil seals replaced which will be less costly. IMO this is not very advisable so i suggest you either replace this with a recon rocker cover.

Experts, please correct if i have stated anything incorrect. Please note that the diagnosis is just an assumption based on the input given.

Cheers,

K9M

Well if oil is leaking to the spark plugs it would cause a misfire, which means there will be a vibration. But I guess you already know this from your 50 years of experience.

When I read ur post first time i got the impression you were referring to a diesel engine. In any case, for someone to recommend a mechanic you should provide more basic information such as make, model, and year of the vehicle, and of course where you live! Some of the models develop common problems are few years. However, did n't your mechanic recommend someone? Ask him whether he suspect a leaky valve or work out piston rings and/or cylinder. If it is mechanical problem in the engine at some point you will hv to decide whether to go for a partial repair or to do a complete re-build of the engine.

K9M,

Your post has given a correct answer if what you suspect.

I hope the topic starter will be more elaborate in questioning any problems in future.

Sylvi Wijesinghe.

I suspect pewix was in some kind of panic when he started a couple of posts. I think everyone should begin their topics with make, model and year of the vehicle if they ask for a problem in their vehicle, and of course where they live if they ask for a recommendation for a mechanic. What's the point in recommending a mechanic in Trinco if you live in Colombo or even outside SL?
