Regardless of what you may feel, that is what the market dictates that they are worth. The lancer box is after all a fairly ordinary Jap econobox that is over 25 years old so even 400-500k is mostly because of our crazy car market. In a sensible market they would barely make 200k.

Pros; Rear wheel drive so potential for being somewhat fun, supposed to be extremely durable if looked after properly.

Cons: It's an old car so parts are getting hard to find, things WILL need replacing because of the age of the car, its expensive for what it is.

As for "modifying possibilities" what kind of modifications do you have in mind?

looking at the above pic...i like the way its look...just that...so if a modification doing,,,maybe a turbo kit plus sporty intirioir...

was going to buy a Mini Cooper but good once are going around 800K i think....cant afford once that amount...that was the case...unless it can be leece or finace ...but too old everybody says

maybe a VW or Escort then ...buy for very low price and restore it with engines etc....that subject was discuess earlier actually by me in another threat

Hi guys! Super topic btw! I'm proud to say my dad used to own one of these awhile back! He had it for 15 years continuously! Thanks to RWD it was quite an involving drive and I loved the car a lot!!

Actually there are a lot spares available for this car, just that most of them are in Ratnapura area as its very very popular over there. I just went there last week and the amount of Lancer Box models there are astounding! And all of them were in top notch shape! Pros are, since car is boxy its a little bit more easier to do tinkering and repair work too! Easy going mechanicals and lots of engine space too! Quite a comfy car as well for a car of its age!

In terms of mods! Leave the body alone and try and get a GSR conversion and some tasty JDM wheels. These cars came factory with a 1.8 4G62 Turbo engine! There was also a very rare 2000 TURBO model with a 4G63 engine and some consider this the Evo 0!

Problems to look out for when buying a car like this would be rust! Rust tends to get everywhere on these car sadly! And the other is the windscreen beadings. The beading is a flat piece of chrome with rubber that kept the windscreen in place, they tend to rust and then leak. Im not too sure whether you can come by these things. Also in the interior dept, the dash was made of a funny material so thanks to the heat they crack. But I have noticed most of the cars dont seem to have this issue as most owners tend put a protective covering on top! They might look stupid but in the long run they help lol!

Special models to look out for are the GSR (I think we have only two cars here!) and the Red beading model. The latter seemed to have a better equipped interior. Other models include the GL, and EX! Special features would be, a special front grille which came with factory fitted fog lamps which did add a nice touch, also rear tail lamp inserts which made the rear end look nice and flush! There was also an after market rear windscreen louvre that was available! They did look really good but it reduces rear visibility a lot!

P.s The pic of the LANCER in the prev post looks quite good! Only thing those wheels need to go! Also those side mirrors are not the original ones. Those are off an old Corona. The original ones are more flat and boxy! Late models did come with a side mirror fitted to the door and only on the driver side! But i find the fender mirrors so much more cooler!!

This one looks very good!

Yes, we had a 1980 GL 1800 for around 20 years (though it was only regularly used for around the first 10 years). Used to be LKR 80k brand new at that time I think. First learned to drive on the thing, but we didn't maintain it that well, unfortunately, so it became a bitch to use towards the end of its stay with us. Can't really remember there being any difference even if it was RWD (but didn't know anything about the subject at the time :) ) Was sold to someone (from Ratnapura!) who I imagine fixed it up and it is probably chugging along fine. It was fairly close in registration series to that blue car you have posted (it was 11 sri 72 something).

It was the original radio that fascinated me the most (think it was an analog AM only radio, with programmable channels and rotary dials). Never managed to get anything much out of it though, as I think most stations had long since switched to FM by the time I was old enough to remember.

The best ones to look for are the 5fwd tranny ones with RPM meter i think those are 1450 CC if im correct?

Im not too sure about the CC, but if im not mistaken these were the red beading models :)

Amazing stuff. All these 80's cars have a certain charm, don't they?! (Only the FR stuff though, the FF stuff are junk!)

Also, this image makes me want one!
