Help With Making A Decision On Buying 2Nd Hand Vehicle

Dear all ,

Need your expert advise in choosing between following 4 options for a 2nd hand vehicle.

my Budget - 3.5 M ( maximum)

options i'm considering

- Toyota Axio - 2007/2008 - Current market 3.3 m - 3.5 m ?

- Toyota Prius - 2nd Generation ( 2008/9) - current Market 3.2 m - 3.5 m ?
- Honda Insight - 2009/10 - current Market 3.1 m to 3.4 m ?

- Honda Civic Hybrid - 2007/8 - Current market 3.5 m ?

i know the fuel consumption is different for each model. let's assume that i get a free fuel allowance ( Limited but adequate for my needs) if so, based on other factors( performance, comfort , handling , repair & maintenance cost, market...., etc ,etc) , what do you think that i should go for? Should i go for something completely different from above options?

The reason you would buy a hybrid is if you want to save on fuel; and that's not a concern for you. But 3 of the 4 options you gave are hybrids. I guess there's another aspect to this story that you haven't told us...

Based on what others have recommended in the past I think the Mazda 3 should also be a good option to consider. Supposed to be bit more fun!

just being gentle on the Environment ! btw..... free fuel is an assumption.....but i'm not a heavy user....so the weight on Fuel can be discounted.

comfort - Civic. Rest are all crap

handling - Civic. but not as good as older civics. Rest are all crap again

If I were you, the cars I would go for,

Nissan Teana - Performance:Good, Comfort: Great, Handling:Great, Repair cost:bad, Market:awful, Fuel:awful

Kia Cerato - - Performance:Superb, Comfort: Good, Handling:Pathetic (needs chassis tuning), Repair cost:cheap, Market:bad, Fuel:good

Mazda 3 - Good in all those departments

If you want to be gentle on the environment, don't buy a hybrid. The manufacturing and destruction process of hybrid batteries cause far more pollution to the environment than a conventional vehicle.

Thanks for the info! yeah you got me with Mazda 3..... ( This also includes Axela as well right?) ...... with that i'll have to go for 2003 - 2004/5 models. newer models may be little far fetched with my Budget.

Just keep looking and dont be afraid to bargain. With Mazdas, its usually a buyer's market out there.

It's true that hybrid cars do, in fact, require more energy to produce than conventional cars, emitting more greenhouse gases and burning more fossil fuels during the manufacturing process. The production of hybrid batteries, in particular, requires much more energy than producing a standard car battery and results in higher emission levels of gases like sulfur oxide.

Also do u think the problem is only the greenhouse gases and energy consumption? Have you heard that mining for minerals required to build batteries for hybrid cars cause irreversible destruction of the environment (including killing all living things in water bodies near the mines)?

My friend is now a reformed man. The army made him one. He stands to this day to be the only medical officer to be punished/disciplined in the billet by the army. But i Have massive respect for our forces. Forget the ethnic conflict. They truly did the impossible with this guy.
