Daihatsu Charade Power Steering Issue

Hi Guys

My brother bought a 1989 Daihatsu charade g100 3-door hatchback and he’s having an issue with the power steering. The wheels are not turning left to right same amount. left and right turning circles/turning angles are different. when you fully turn the wheels to Left side (counterclockwise) its touching inside the wheel arch. can hear the “karas karas” sound. what would be the issue and how to fix it ?

first get a wheel alignment done and see whether this can be rectified by adjusting rack end lengths.

If it fails, inspect the rack to see whether rack is mis aligned due to some reason.

If not most probable cause is, someone adjusted the center position of the steering rack during a repair. usually the teething of the rack wears out fast from the center position, therefore as a remedy mechanics do shift the center postion of the rack by couple of teeth and adjust the rack ends accordingly.

Some vehicles e.g. Mitsubishi L200 have different turning radius for two directions. Do not know the charade also.

That just can't be true. If you are speaking from experience, then it maybe just the L200 that you were driving.

Not one but two vehicles

it was the power steering rack as Harshan said. had to replace with recondition one.
