Here some models you will get as suggestion from experts.

mazda bj3p / bj5p

toyota AE 100

suzuki swift jeep model

Run a search in the forum you'll get more suggestion. If you are going for a JDM sedan then probably it'll be over 10 years old.

PS: I'm no expert and I don't own a car but I've been researching lately on forum extensively.

Machan, go for a brand new Maruit/Suzuki small car. With the tax reduction, probably you will be able to buy new one with your budget.

When comparing with a small car, you cannot expect super fule efficency from a sedan [unless its a hybrid]. Generally all the famous sedans in the market does in betwen 7 - 10 km in city travelling. I found what people say and what actualy the vehicle delivers, always has a gap.

Most of the time the develivery is less than whats been told :speechless-smiley-004:

Second hand market........its a slowly diminishing segment. In near future vehicles will become something like consumer durables and you'll not be able to gain profits by buying & selling. Toyota Soluna does average 8-10 km in city & 12-14 outstation. But its a very good car for its price.

How is the reselling value of soluna comapred to others? corolla 110 old model can also be bought for that price? what is better? Isnt that too old? many people blacard indian vehicles like alto due to poor durability and safety. Thats y im afraid of buying an alto. can you point out fuel effiecency of alto in figures?

well if you want a low budget car with English numbers I will suggest a Proton Wira (1500 EFI model) which can now be bought for something in between 900k to 1.1 million, basically these cars are with Mitsubishi Engine and gear box hence spares are not an issue as they share all Lancer components, they are comfortable and do good on fuel for a 1500cc that age (dont buy 1300 as they dont do well on fuel)

Only issues are the plastics are brittle so many cars had cracked dashboards (esp 300- series ones), English no's were better I guess ,also 2nd hand market is not that good, but if I'm in your place i will go for one

2004 YOM alto with 90k+ milage

13 km/l colimbo traffic 18-22 km/l out stattion. I HEARD new version is more fuel efficient.

I dont think alto has anything wrong with durability though it won't last as much as a Japanse car. My one has survived for 10 yeasr and signs are it'll survive for another 5 more years. You shouldn't be expecting more than that for the price you pay.

Yes safety is a concern. You need to be cautios and be aware that you are driving an Alto. With all the state of the art safety features Vinil Manik's Merc crashed killing 4 people incuding his son.

For your budget and concern on fuel efficiency alto seems to be a good fit. But keep in mind it won't give the things like driving pleasure, comfort, social status etc.

There was a thread comparing alto with a starlet. you might find some info there as well

fuel efficient car.....less than 1.5 million. I think what amilawuk has suggested is a good choice.

Requirement & available budget, thats what need to be think of extensively. If you looking for a car for daily travel with this budget, better to go for a fuel efficient small car.

If you mainly use the vehicle in weekends and for family/lesuire travels, then you can consider a sedan. Corolla 110, Sunny FB 14, Soluna, Civic EG8 some of the sedan models you can look for. Corolla 110 should be the first option.

Resell value....just let it go. Way things are moving forward, you can't gain profit by selling a car after 2-3 years of use.

Maheshdbr - all these models which I mentioned are minimum 15 years old and had been driven at least 150,000 km. If you are going for the old sedan option, you need to check the condition of prospective cars thoroughly. Ever never be that miserable guy who has been dumped or caught to a shitty oldie. However there are considerable number of good old cars which have been used carefully with good care.

How is the second hand market of the soluna compared to alto. Which has the best?

Alto has more of a market, but the Soluna is the better car. Because its a model not sold in the Japanese market, body parts are not as easy to find. I think engine and drive train are shared between other models.

Maheshdbr, you could consider Toyota "CORSA" which is JDM and good on fuel & build quality.

Do not go for a Soluna if You are considering the resale value. I think best option in the table for you is Toyota Sprinter 110. You can find a good one (YOM 95 - 97) around 1.5 Mil and this is coming from a guy who recently bought one... :smilie_liebe9: and believe me, you will not feel the same with an Alto even if its brand new.

If you ready to go for pre "English number" car, there are much better options than Toyota Soluna. AFAIK Soluna is a basic car. There are many better Nissan & Honda cars going below 1.5M range these days. And a friend recently got a Ford Laser (J number) in absolute mint condition for around 1.4M. Soluna might give 1-2Kmpl more, but it's not worth IMO. (given the available options at this price range)

for the simple reason my friend.....not having deep pockets to buy a Merc. Having said that the one has to realise the fact that you are driving a cheap alto and you shouldn't be doing things when you're behind the wheel of a Merc or BMW

End of the day everyone has to say good bye when the time comes whether you're in a alto/ leyland or Merc/BMW

I inquired A*W about alto. I will recieve the car mid or end of march if i order one today......... :speechless-smiley-006:

Second had alto prices are too high.... some people claim 1.5 million for 2011 one. how about toyota corona or corsa?

Asking prices in SL aren't a good indicator of what they actually sell for.

And those prices are wishful thinking considering the recent price drops of the brand new variant.

And with the ride quality of a bullock cart and the build quality of a pappadam when riding one you will probably alwways dream of a Corona or Corsa.

Ok being serious, carefully evaulate the options before making a decision. New does not always mean trouble free.

There is a 110 (previous model) which is registered in 2008. but it is assembled in sri lanka? is there any issue in that?

Maheshdbr – you can keep on asking from thousands of people about different cars, their features, values, fuel efficiency, resell values, budget impacts etc. and for surely each & everyone will tell different stories. Everyone thinks his or her car as the best one on the planet :music-smiley-010: . That's why most of the time car models like Corolla 121s which are 10-12 years old, going above 3 M :speechless-smiley-004:

First you decide the main requirement of buying a car. Is it for daily travel or only for weekend/leisure/family travels? Then compare this against your budget. If it’s for daily travelling, then fuel efficiency will be a concern. For family travels, better to have a little big car. Likewise list down these points and discuss within yourself on what you actually want. Then it’ll be easy for you to make the decision. But at the end of the day, 75% - 80% of the final decision should be purely yours. For an example, you may decide to pay 3 M for a 121. For most it may look like a foolish decision, but for you.....it's MY DECISION :sport-smiley-003: .

There should be. Any sane person would not assemble a Car here just for Kicks. Check the Book etc... Even better if you can avoid it. And most people will not go for something like that even if its clear. So your resale value will go for a six.

My advice is, just go with the common flow. Look through the Classifieds. Even Autolanka has some good 110s and Premio Coronas of same age as of right now. go with a person who knows these things to the inspection. Do not spend everything you got on buying the thing. Expect and keep some budget reserved for minor repairs since its not brand new. That will do the trick.

When I bought mine, I had to fix the central lock, Boot door lock had some minor issue, Changed the Oil Filters and did some minor touch-ups. So expect these kind of things. That's it.
