Dear Gentlemen,

 I just want to know what are the disadvantages of buying a car previously driven with LP gas. Heard some rumors that there might be some issues with the engines of those Gas converted cars. Pls advise.

This has been discussed before. Please search the forum. 

You just need to make sure that the vehicle was "properly" converted to gas and reverted back "properly" when the gas system was uninstalled. The issues you're referring to only applies to vehicles that were not converted to proper standards. But honestly, I'm not sure if any of the LPG conversions done in Sri Lanka were done to proper standards.

Actually, the initial conversions done by Laughs I believe were up to standard (at least it seemed so) and I remember them going through extensive check/safety checklists and having us bring the cars back for secondary checks at a certain mileage. I believe things went hay wire once quite a few other companies started offering cheaper alternatives including direct fitting household gas tanks in the trunk.

for a correct LPG conversion you need to replace the valve seals to combat the higher ignition temperatures which was never done in SL. My take is most probably there could be burned valve seats after sometime.

You could look for tel tale signs of burning oil, low compression or even a proper emission test.

Even if you get a similar car driven with petrol, you are getting a used car with a high milage.

Tuning for your car is important as LPG has slightly differant parameters to efficient burning when compared with petrol.

Get your car inspected by a LPG specialist specialy the under carrage where the gas line is routed from the boot to the engine bay.  And the tuning for LPG. And domestic cilinder conversions are a nono!

I've seen LPG converted engines maintain a slightly higer operating temp. So getting the cooling system checked/serviced is recommended.
