Honda Vezel RS 2016 or Nissan X-Trail 2015-2016.
What is the ideal vehicle from these two?

Both have scary gearboxes so staying away from them is the ideal choice.

Well..for starters you are comparing crossovers that belong to two different categories. Once is a compact cross over and the other is a midsized-ish. The X-Trail has more room and in many ways feels a lot more roomier and has more light than the Vezel. 

The XTrail has a selectable AWD system whilst the Vezel does not..if it makes any difference to you. However, the XTrail withi its fancy electronic suspension is a bit too roley poley. So the Vezel feels more engaging to drive. Also, the XTrail feels a bit too fake and plastic like compared to the Vezel (Vezel has a much nicer feel) but that is a matter of personal preference.

Both have had gearbox related issues...the Vezel's DCT issues are cheaper and more easily resolved than the Nissan's gearbox issue.

You can find RAV4s and CRVs within that budget...even some of the Korean models....
