Mercedes E Class

The older W210 Models range from about 4-8 million for a facelift in mint condition (diesel auto with 12,000km and G Reg plates went for 8 mil a few month back). Most are E200. Max I have seen is an E320 badge on a silver car with H Reg Plates.

The newer shape goes around 9-14 million for registered. Most cars are E200 compressor or E240.

B'New E200 Comp was 18 million at the last quote we got about a month back. Might be a little more after the 31st Dec. I have seen a 320 AMG of that as well (One Akbar Bros directors drives one).

I heard quite a few basic Mercs are running with higher capacity models in SL. Specially the S280 with S320 and S350 bagdes.

C180 will go for 2.6-4.5 million depending on the condition and the number (18- to English Numbered). Diesels should again be 3.5 and up...depending on the condition.

5 years back we sold an C180 18- (Bnew Import) for 1.8mil. How times have changed.

The early 90's models (boxy ones) 190 and the E200 (124 model) goes under up to just under 2 mil.

Best buy would be a 300- 301-regsitered B'new E220 Indian Merc (Square Light model) with low miles will be a good buy for around 1.9-2.4 mil.

When buying one....bargain hard..cos its not easy selling a used Merc

The E220 was assembled in India. Only the battery and soem minor parts were of Indian origin.

We ran our for 5 years or so commercially and didn't have any major problems. The A/C packed up a couple of days before we sold it and some suspension repairs (normal wear).

We got 1.9 mil for it from a person who knew the car well. It had done over 80k by then. It came B'New around 2.4 mil from D*MO.

I Was wondering about the W124 Model...... A friend of my dad had one (an E200 Diesel) and sold it for 2 mill about 3 years back..... but I recently saw an ad that said something like 3.5 Mill for a 230TE (Estate) in the Motor mag....... Was that a one off?

I think the E350 should be quite close to S-Class money (Whats a few million when your in the paying 30 to 40mil? :(

That was a one off I think. It had a new number (UK or Singapore Used) and I guess some one might have paid a high duty brining it in in recent times or trying to make a buck on it.

Has anyone any idea about what (petrol) models of the Mercedes E class are available in Sri Lanka and their prices? Has the E 350 been launched here?

Any help is appreciated :)!

Current models in stock are the E200K - 19m and the E280 21m. E350 has to be ordered.

Thanks a lot. Just found out that D*MO has a website as well. www.dimolanka.com , should be helpful for anyone needing contact numbers with the agents.

New E-Guard models from Mercedes-Benz: Original bodyshell with a network of protective features

698569_1260768_1500_844_09A83.jpg

Stuttgart – Shortly after the market launch of the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is also offering the world's most successful business saloon as a specially protected E-Guard model. This is mainly distinguishable from the standard model by a network of intelligently conceived protective features of special steel, which are invisibly integrated beneath the otherwise identical body. This protective cocoon also includes all-round polycarbonate glazing. Accordingly the new E-Guard Saloon offers its occupants effective protection against the increasing worldwide risk of criminal attack in the street. With this new Guard model, Mercedes-Benz is continuing its eight decades of expertise in the design and production of special protection vehicles.

As is usual at Mercedes-Benz, the special requirements for the special protection version of the E-Class were already taken into consideration by the developers at the specification stage. The new E-Guard is subject to the same bodyshell processes as a regular production model, which means that structural strength, dimensional accuracy, corrosion protection and outstanding paint quality are guaranteed to series production standards.

All-road protection against criminal attack in the street

During the next stage, highly experienced and specially trained experts install the precisely formed protective elements, which exactly fit the contours of the bodyshell without encroaching on the interior space. The result is a comprehensively protected passenger cell of special, high-strength steels and aramide components, which are complemented with highly resistant polycabonate glazing of attractive visual appearance. All these measures are invisible to the naked eye. The extremely stringent Mercedes-Benz guidelines are applied by the production specialists to ensure complete quality control at all times.

Despite the high level of special protection, the comfort-related advantages of the new E-Class are fully retained. This applies equally to the generous spaciousness of this fully-fledged five-seater, the spatial acoustics, the sun protection and the lighting/control functions. The rear window is heated, and the power windows on the driver and front passenger sides are fully retractable. Efficient power windows are also available for the rear. Optional extras include an emergency alarm system that causes the headlamps to flash and sounds an alarm at the touch of a button in the event of a threat. An intercom system allows communication between the protected passenger cell and the outside world. In addition the new E-Guard features the numerous, innovative assistance systems of the new E-Class.

The new E-Guard meets the stringent requirements for High-Protection according to protection class VR4 (formerly B4) and more. This means that the vehicle is able to withstand handgun bullets of up to .44 Magnum in calibre -- at random angles of fire, to provide the most realistic protection possible. The E-Guard therefore offers outstanding protection against criminal attacks in the street, as has been verified and certificated by an internationally recognised test institute. Underbody armour is also available on request. This makes the entire underfloor area of the passenger cell resistant to attack with a DM51 hand-grenade.

Modified suspension plus adapted control and restraint systems

The suspension and brakes are adapted to suit the increased weight caused by the protection features. The E-Guard is equipped with a special Level II version of the AIRMATIC air suspension system as standard. The electronic control and restraint systems that assist the driver in critical situations have been specifically adapted to suit the different parameters versus the standard model. The car is fitted with 17-inch wheels and run-flat tyres designed for a maximum speed of 240 km/h as standard. With the tyres deflated, the vehicle is still able to cover up to 50 kilometres at a speed of 80 km/h to enable its occupants to escape from the danger area in the event of a corresponding attack.

Extensive test marathon

Like all the series-production vehicles, the new E-Guard Saloon was subjected to extensive testing under tough conditions during its development. This included endurance testing on simulated rough tracks, braking tests on Alpine passes, climatic tests at extreme temperatures, long-term corrosion tests and crash tests.

Like all Guard models, the E-Guard is covered by the full Mercedes-Benz warranty and service terms – in addition to the integrated, ex factory protection, this is another important advantage over vehicles with retrofitted special protection.

Family-friendly saloon with special protection

The new E-Guard is available in three engine variants, with an option of the basic ELEGANCE line or the AVANTGARDE line. The E 500 and E 350, as well as the diesel-powered E 350 CDIBlueEFFICIENCY, are designed as five-seaters with a boot capacity of 540 litres and a high payload of up to 550 kilograms, which means they are fully suitable for day-to-day and family use.

The High-Protection package for the E-Guard costs 45,000 Euro (German list price excl. VAT). The new E-Guard can be ordered from April 2009.

Hi Folks,

Sorry to initiate the old thread again, but since this seems to have few insights on W124 E220 I thought sharing my concerns on the same thread would be ideal than creating a separate new thread. Excuse me if you are annoyed.

So the thing is, Im currently looking at a W124 E220 to purchase a petrol car (EFI model). My concerns are, how to identify whether its a indian assembled or not? and what are the differences of indian assembled cars and is there any price differences or any issues with regards to indian assembled ones ??

Any specifics that i should look for before purchasing ??

Your insights are much appreciated.

Don’t know if the 124s came from India but later models 210s and the 203s in particular , the Indian ones had Lucas parts while the German ones had Bosch parts.

Hmm thanks for the headsup.. even on this thread i saw someone had mentioned about indian assembled ones..

If you are on the hunt, avoid the ones that came from the UK as well. As most of them didn't have factory fitted air condition. Their radiators are also created for their climate. I once had a similar 190E which was brought down from the UK. they have fitted a air condition set locally which as not bad but there were some annoying issues, it used to stall sometimes in traffic as the idle rpm was not designed to handle a compressor load, raising the idle rpm helped a bit but the problem didn't go away completely. Also you need to fit at least two aux fans in front for this climate. Try to fine one from which the agents imported. These cars, the legendary ride quality, even if you go on a very long trip and get down you will feel "Fresh". Get one in decent shape as these cars mechanically are very reliable, they start every morning , don't burn oil electrical systems are very simple so they work, . Finding one with proper service history is a bit hard though.

Yeah true that.. found few original petrol and later diesel converted cars (YOM are around 1985) and one e220 petrol of late 90's. i was looking into a diesel car as its economical but if im going for a petrol  then my choice will be an EFI car.. but the ones which came as EFI's were made after 1995 and those seems to be assembled from different regions like india , Indonesia and Malaysia it seems

How about the fuel consumption of diesel vs petrol vehicles with same engine cap for an example 2000cc or 2500cc ?

If it’s a 2L petrol you will get something like 6-7 at most. The cars are quite heavy. Don’t have any idea on the diesels though. Someone I know has a W126 3L 6 cylinder diesel and it does around 7 in Colombo. Are you sure the EFI ones are after 95? The 92 190E I had was also EFI (Ancient mechanical EFI as I recall)

About where it is made it’s up to you. Ask around the forum as well.
