BLOODY HELL! :o

that is by far and way the most metalist thing i've seen on a Defender!

350 bhp American V8's , NoS etc etc all look a little pale compared to that!

hmmm i wonder what the suspension mods are..

Check their site machang, they have all sorta upgrades for all Land Rover vehicles including chassis.. so this must be well put to gether

Bought down on the BOI permit way back during the ime many a Toyota Sahara came for the permit. Mainly for Hotels.

oh yes how can i forget the infamous hotel permit. how come this permit is not too common these days? no new hotels been constructed or has the BOI discontinued the permit? i remember back in late 90's and early 2000's hotel permits were widely available

Rubbish Cars We Love: Land Rover Defender - Great for Raiding Tombs

Christy Brinkley, Sean Connery, Jane Fonda, Robin Williams, and Oprah-bloody-Winfrey drive a Defender. Eclectic? Definitely.

And it’s not really rubbish at all; the Defender is in fact classless, timeless and sexually brutal (We’re back in Oprah Winfrey territory again, aren’t we?).

Though this particular model of Land Rover still looks like a giant piece of Lego with bumpers big enough to catch polar bears in. Don’t be fooled by the £20k price tag either, those gaps in the panels aren’t there to the let air circulate.

The Defender came into fruition as a natural evolution from the ’series’ models that preceded it. The Series 1 helped our troops clear up after the Second World War, the Series 2 developed into a more user-friendly farmer’s vehicle during the 1960s/70s, while the Series 3 went on to become the most revolutionary Land Rover ever created - it had a heater fitted as standard.

Spot of trivia: Ever out voluntarily collecting rubbish off street corners and want to be able to tell an early Series 2 and 3 apart? The Series 3 has its headlamps just above the front bumper (like the Defender) and not on the centre grill. Found that interesting? Congratulations, you’re sitting in a library.

When the Defender arrived, it not only came equipped with creature comforts like wind-up windows and a bigger windscreen - thanks to Rover’s masterful V8 engine, it also went faster than a milk float.

The year is now 1983 and Land Rover knew they were in trouble. A Series 3 was not going to sway any new drivers into the fold. Little ‘quirks’ like turning the steering wheel ten minutes before you needed to take a corner were going to have to go. It was time to start selling to people who didn’t collect military memorabilia. Defender time, in other words.

By 1985 the Defender was available in the three standard wheelbase (length) options still in production today. The 110", the 90" and the commercial 127" (now 130"). And if you’re as bored as we are with chassis measurements let’s move swiftly onto the main event, what makes the Defender rubbish, but ultimately cool?

Angelina Jolie for one thing. Can you see the paradox? She’s un-cool, yet she makes the Defender cool. They should put this stuff on the curriculum.

The producers of Jolie’s original Tomb Raider movie approached Land Rover for a Defender. Just something for her to skid about it in, save the globe, do her nails, that kind of thing. Far more than just handing a couple over with a hearty handshake, Land Rover decided to produce a special edition 'Tomb Raider Defender‘, slapped £23,000 on the bonnet and sold it to anyone who still thought spot lamps made you virile.

Tomb Raider 2: Cradle of Life saw the Defender unfortunately dropped from Jolie’s arsenal and replaced by an all-American Jeep. We’re convinced that’s what made the movie crap. No disputing it, script, direction, Jolie - everything else was spot on.

If Tomb Raider was the Defender’s first bit of high profile movie promotion, it’s only because Land Rover didn’t feel the need to advertise the thing very much.

If you want a Defender you’ll seek it out. Nobody ever impulse-buys one because of its alluring engine grunt or two-inch mud flaps. You find the best and pay up confidently. That’s justifiable arrogance. Mercedes, Porsche, take heed. Johnny Borrell too, while the fingers are typing.

What little advertising Land Rover does undertake for the Defender is often confused beyond all comprehension.

The culturally insulting image of an African lady’s boobs being blown sideways as a Freelander model speeds past, being perhaps being their most balls-up stupid. But they can’t seem to get their movie choices right these days either.

While not appearing anywhere in Batman Begins, the Defender is currently being showcased in a pointless one-sheet depicting its silhouette projected inside the Bat symbol. A flying Defender? Oooh-kay!

Your average Defender driver is, in the main, a hard bastard. They drink antifreeze for breakfast and pour Castrol on their fish n’ chips. However, don’t think this is a vehicle exclusively for guys. If you catch a chick manoeuvring a Defender round your local designer outlet that’s as sexier a sight as you’re going to see all week.

Power steering not only makes driving the current Defender bearable, it also opens up the big truck’s capabilities to those who don’t possess forearms like someone doing twenty years to life.

You sit up high in a Landy, scanning the flock and having your way at any junction. Why’s that you ask, surely there are bigger cars on the road? There are, but BMW X5’s and Volvo XC 90’s scratch like year-eleven girls - not a problem your Defender owner cares less about. Stick a car in front for too long and they’ll simply drive over it.

The Defender is rough, tough, Top Gear’s Greatest Car of All Time and utterly irreplaceable.

Buy a Defender, we have no hesitation in recommending it to you, and the more you can spend the better your prize will be. Like Jude Law really, the better his half-baked apology to Sienna Miller, the more likely it is he’ll keep warm this winter.

The Defender - we lied to you, it’s not rubbish. It’s merely misunderstood by company car drivers. It’s bigger than you, it’s harder than you, just accept it and move on. Or go up and thump one if you like while the owner’s in the pub - You’ll break a knuckle on its carved granite bodywork, but then we like a good laugh so that’s your problem!

Jaguar Land Rover unveils new energy efficient academy

Today, Jaguar Land Rover unveiled its new, environmentally advanced, Technical Academy for Jaguar and Land Rover dealer technicians and apprentices.

http://forum.landrovernet.com/attachment.p...mp;d=1232472686

Mike Wright, Customer Services Director, Jaguar Land Rover with TV presenter, Kate Humble and David Smith, CEO, Jaguar Land Rover

The Academy, in Warwick, coordinates and conducts all product and systems training for technical staff (principal service technicians) employed in the Jaguar Cars and Land Rover UK and international dealer networks. In addition, it operates one of the largest and most successful apprentice programmes in the UK automotive retail sector. Over the past decade, over 1,000 young people have participated in its advanced apprenticeship programme and in May 2008, The Academy became one of the first training providers in the UK to be awarded Training Quality Standard certification by the Learning & Skills Council.

The new Academy brings together training facilities previously based at Jaguar Land Rover's design and engineering headquarters in Gaydon and manufacturing facilities at Castle Bromwich. It occupies over 4,000 sq metres of floor area including a state-of-the-art 60 metre workshop and training zone equipped with the very latest vehicles, components and systems for all hands-on training. The facility also boasts 16 classrooms, four of which can accommodate vehicles for in-depth training activity.

Jaguar Land Rover is committed to the training and development of a world class workforce to deliver exceptional customer service within the UK and overseas dealer networks. The new Academy will act as a showcase for the company's other dealer training centres around the world.

Mike Wright, Director, Customer Services said: "Jaguar Land Rover is passionate about delivering an outstanding customer experience, and The Academy is an example of how we are ensuring we deliver that in all our markets. The facility not only provides training for technicians and apprentices working in our UK dealer networks, but also serves as a centre of excellence in supporting our global markets. The Academy will act as a blueprint, in terms of both the facility and procedural standards, wherever we deliver training around the world. It is vital for our customers that we have a consistent approach to ensuring our dealers are technically capable of maintaining our sophisticated products and understand what it takes to deliver the levels of service our customers have come to expect."

Dr Adrian Birch, Manager of The Academy said: "I believe our Academy is the best equipped automotive training facility of its type. Jaguar Land Rover provides an industry leading Dealer Apprenticeship programme which continues to grow year on year. Both brands have excellent reputations in the development of young people and this Centre of Excellence is a further step in demonstrating our long term commitment to supporting and promoting engineering as a modern and exciting industry."

The chemicals company, BASF, assisted Jaguar Land Rover with the renovation of the new building by offering advice and solutions in addressing environmental efficiency and sourcing sustainable materials for the project. The completely refurbished building incorporates a host of energy efficient solutions as part of Jaguar Land Rover's on-going commitment to a holistic programme of responsible progression from product development to manufacturing process and construction.

Instead of using conventional air conditioning in the classroom areas, the design team chose innovative new plasterboard which incorporates a BASF phase change material consisting of microscopically small polymer spheres containing a wax storage medium. When the temperature rises, the phase change material inside the polymer capsules absorbs heat and melts. When the temperature falls, the liquid solidifies and emits heat. This ensures a more uniform room temperature without the carbon emissions and costs associated with conventional air conditioning.

Other sustainable solutions implemented by Jaguar Land Rover in this renovation include Rainwater Harvesting Tanks, Solar/Thermal Heating, Solar Water Heating, High Efficiency Lighting and Spray Foam Insulation. It is estimated that the improvements will save over 275 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

TV presenter, Kate Humble, officially opened The Academy, formerly the site of Books for Students in Bird Road, Warwick. Kate commented: "Jaguar Land Rover is committed to improving its carbon footprint whilst providing its apprentices and dealers with a first class facility. It was a delight to meet with some of the young apprentices and dealer technical staff today and see the enthusiasm they showed towards their new academy."

Young people considering a career in the motor industry can find everything they need to know about Jaguar and Land Rover apprenticeships at the new websites, www.jaguarapprenticeships.com and www.landroverapprenticeships.com.

Land Rover loan 'to be approved'

By Joe Lynam

Business correspondent

Jaguar Land Rover will get approval for a loan of £270m (300m euros) from the European Investment Bank on Tuesday 7 April, the BBC understands.

According to government sources, the firm has met the loan criteria.

A loan of £364m (400m euros) will also be split between Nissan's plants in Sunderland and Spain, bringing the UK total to £455m (500m euros).

Jaguar Land Rover said it could be a number of weeks before any cash was handed over.

Sources at the company were more cautious, stressing that whilst they were confident the money will be approved, they did not want to assume it would.

Greener technology

If the EIB loan is approved by its board when it meets in Luxemburg, it would then need some form of government guarantee before any monies were disbursed.

They add the deal is likely to be approved by the board of the EIB when it meets in Luxembourg next week.

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has set aside £2.3bn (€2.5bn) in support for the car industry which is mostly made up of loan guarantees as well as direct aid to car makers.

The criteria for any EIB loan require car makers to invest in new greener technology to lower emissions during vehicle production and driving.

The car industry has been particularly hit by the recession with UK sales down 22% and car production plummeting 59% on the same time last year.

Jaguar Land Rover cut 450 staff in January 2009 and are seeking further 300 salaried redundancies from its 14,500-strong UK workforce. Some 50,000 British jobs are dependent on the firm.

Staff are essentially working a four-day week following an agreement with trade unions. Hourly-paid employees are working a 35-hour week and a pay freeze has been agreed on the guarantee of no compulsory job cuts for two years.

Based in Gaydon, Warwickshire, it employs about 15,000 people in Castle Bromwich, Coventry and Solihull in the West Midlands and Halewood, Merseyside.

Some 12 million people are employed in the European car industry, including 800,000 workers in the UK.

i love the way you quote the price. reminds me of the good old GST days when people used to quote prices with out the GST

Well you cant complain cos others quote pre VAT price.

Actually you have to put the NBT on the pre VAT price, also the according to the Minister you cannot charge it from the customer cant complain cos everyone does charge it from the Customer (check your phone, electricity bills & etc).
