All that proves is that someone had an ego-ectomy. If he had any brains, he should know better than to race modded cars.

hmmm...looks like someone is not very happy that his beloved Z got it's ass whooped by a 50 year old ladybug on steroids :P

just pulling your leg peri :)

I was expecting your entrance on this thread. And you have also said what I expected.

This video is pukka -

As in ass? HUH? Plus you guys have to clarify all this excitment over the launch of the new fiat 500. It aint really that fast it and it really aint that good looking (Sorry you guys I had to say it) ....I understand that the original 500 was european equivalent of the mini, cheap, super simple and fun to drive. But the new one doesn't seem to embody the same values does it? And judging by the topgear clip of JC driving the 500 Abarth it seems to under deliver a tad. But how come everyone seems to be so enthused by it? Am I missing something? Could someone explain please?

i'm sure about the others mate. but i always had a soft spot for little fwd hot hatchbacks. and i think the 500 abarth is quite cool. ok, i could do without the chequred roof and i'd rather have gunmetal wheels over the white one cos those look too japanesey. but i'm glad abarth is back and like how the legendary 500 colloaborated with it in such a pukka package.

i'm not challenging you in any way mate but u should try taking a tiny fwd hatch with a good chassis through a super narrow twisty off camber back road. even a 1.4 peugeot 306 will put a smile on your face :)

Totally, and I mean no offence to anyone either....

I'm a huge fan of the Golf, the new Mini and recently rented a Volvo C30 which I thought was amazing. Sadly I haven't driven any of the proper 'hot hatches' that are raved about like the GTI or the Civic R, but having driven numerous more mundane offerings I can say I relate. I see how little nippy cars with style and good build qualtiy can as JC would put it "make you feel happy" and make whipping down to the store a little less of a drag.

I don't however see how the new Fiat 500 would justify all this excitment though. I see how it appeals as throw back to the classic like the new Mini, but unlike the new Mini if it doesn't offer up the same driving experience then really what's the point?

my fondness for the 500 abarth is mostly due to the fact my mom had a 500 and my uncle owned a strada abarth. not that i've ever been in them cos this was even before i was born. but its those family stories you hear on get togethers. like how my mom would get in the car with all of her 5 siblings or how my uncle would race other bigger engined italian cars down an autostrada. so i always had a fascination for those 2 badges :)

but emphasizing on what you said i agree the mini is a fantastic thing to drive. but marketting wise these 2 cars dont fall into the same category. i think the only reason why we are comparing them is cos they are revivals of two legendary icons. but whats important here is this. the mini was always with us. whereas the 500 was killed off many years ago. so u never missed the mini. but whereas with the 500 i got a warm fuzzy feeling when i first saw the trepiuno concept back in 2003 which didnt happen when i saw the new mini

its not only that. the mini was always the obvious choice. and in more ways the better machine. but because its under the shadow of the mini the 500 is a lot more appealing to me. its just a personal thing :P

Its wasn't too narrow, but the last time I put the VZR thru that off-camber corner at Pannala at full speed I thought I would loose my lunch  Its pretty hairy. But I guess your right, I didn't even notice the next few times. Car certainly had no problem.

i havent driven around pannala myself. but that sounds like a good test for circa 200 bhp fwd cars. how about we organise an autolanka track day peri?

Your family had an 500 abarth in SL? Pretty cool, considering its rear wheel drive and all. Would love to have one to muck about in. What became of it?

yeah was about ot ask myself!

i've seen one Blue 500 with Abarth badges which belongs to one of the top flight collectors but dunno if its really an Abarth or not...

Who said gaining weight was a bad thing? :

that thing is mental! but not of a fan of bike engines in cars , with just a possible exception of a Westfield
