"Pajero", in Spanish, is "a person who masturbates". And Buick's Canadian version of the LaCrosse is called "Allure" purportedly because "LaCrosse" is slang among young Québecois for, you guessed it: wanking.

Not really. It might seem weird on a car, but this list is primarily cars that aren't English words. But then, that would apply to models like "Camaro" as much as "Camry". And its kinda excusable from companies that aren't based in English speaking countries. Starion? Rodius? Rexton? Furai, anyone? Not everyone can name cars like Mustang or Viper.

At least the old Nissans had names in English, even if it didn't really suit a car. Fairlady, Skyline, Sunny. Heck, even the California.

Oh but the Japs do sometimes come up with absolute Zingers! ones that make "Fairlady. Gloria, Cedric" et al pale in comparison...

For example:

Mazda Bongo Friendee

Daihatsu Applause

Daihatsu Naked

Daihatsu Rugger

Mitsubishi Toppo

Subaru Impreza Gravel Express.

Nissan Homy....

And My all time Favourite... the Isuzu MU. What does MU stand for?? Mysterious Utility  I kid you not

I thought Furai was not a bad name. And it does have a meaning in Japanese, doesn't it?

No its not a bad name, I just said it has no meaning in English, much like Camry in the example. There are pitfalls to naming things in other languages. You end up with different meanings like "Pajero" and "Nova".
