If by any chance Upul knows the previous owner or if he is getting something from the deal, that f***** would recommend you any piece of crap if he can gain a new customer or some benefit out of it..Talking with first hand experience here. He recommended a EG8 Vtec to one of my friends and said it was in very good condition. Later when we went to inspect the car, we found out that the previous owner had used it on LP gas. Suspension was rubbish(he said it was bc of the old tyres) and when we asked him, he reluctantly agreed and then said his most fav. words. "Well we can fix all the issues, no problem". I mean which good  , honest mechanic would suggest a crappy car to another person knowing that the actual condition of it. Anyway, it up to the owner of the car to decide.. :) Just giving some information so people can take precautions when they're working with these sort of people.. :)

Thank you very much for the information GEARHEAD. Acutually I thought he was genuine up to now.

This bladdy thing was happened to me sometime ago when we're looking for EG8 vtecs. No point of explaining it again since my friend gearHead did it in a great manner. So me too advice you to hang on with agents in your inspection..

is this a ViRS for sure?

How do you pin point and find out a certain ek civic is a virs for sure?

it aint at least got VTEC on the engine cover. may be i am wrong since i cannot remember for sure but i think it should read VTEC on the engine cover.

i am just asking out of curiosity.

yes. this is a VIRS. from 95 to 2000 vtec engines doesnt have the vtec word on the tappet cover. most visbile thing is the two vtec selonoids near the injectors. and the engine code which is d15b

i've known upul since 2003 cos i have had a string of honda's,went to him for routine maintanence untill recently, beforehand i always researched what exactly the problem with my car cos otherwise he'll try to rip you off and install un-needed parts he had at his house...and for check ups your better off going to the agents since upul's most hi-tec diagnostic tool is a spanner...

now there are a couple other blokes doin honda repairs outside stafford just like upul, one of em' i got to know through forum member Gearhead.

Yes. Me too having that contact with whom we're dealing in our running repairs after that incidence with upul. He is living near by Gampaha & he is only available on weekends as he is still employed at stafford :)

Anyway PM me if anyone interested. I'll give his contacts..

For the record, D15B is a designation used for several different motors, not only that in the ViRS. Our definitely non Vtec Jap spec ES8 automatic also has a D15B engine. So that code is no guarantee of any kind.

here's a chronology of the honda D engine

Good point .

But..

Can that metal plate in side the bonnet be changed?

(The plate that contain the Engine # Model etc.)

Good one machang,

Simply this is how people get f***ed up their business.

Trying to earn quick money I guess.

The "System" is always to be blamed.

Go to agents for the inspection before you buy. That is the best. Also take the car to an uneven road, so you can hear all the noises that you can't here in the carpeted road.

Find good Honda guy for routing maintenance.

Best way to identify D15B engine is VTEC or not is the 2 VTEC solenoids located near the left hand side of the tappet cover inline with the injectors.

but not all vtec civics are ViRS. so what is the definitive differentiator between a VTi and a ViRS?

This is one of the best ways to analyze the suspension ...etc. And some speeding on a proper road, could also help I guess.

well if the buyer is interested i can give you the contact details of the person that would actually be doing the PPI inspections at stafford motors. However, he is only available in weekends so you might have to arrange someting with him. you might be able to save some $$$. However, if you really need the engine scanning done, then u'd have to go to stafford bro. :)

just a small warning though, engine scanning would not reveal any mechanical issues of the engine. It will only reveal what it gathers through the sensors. You might need to take it for a good test drive to find out condition of the suspension, gearbox operation, other vibrations,etc.. :)If you take the car to the dealers, make sure you tell them to do a through checkup on the condition of suspension bushes. :)

by looking at the engine bay you will never diffrentiate a vti from virs. (only visible thing is vti has d15z7 singpore spec vtec engine code)

but there are so many cosmetic diffrences visibe in exterior. we have discussed this over and over again.

sorry i wasn't around then. i had a friend of mine who was cheated with a non vtec as being a ViRS with only badges, so i have always warned pople who opt for ViRS to be extra cautious.

But how about the VIN plate? I have seen Vi/VTi ones labeled. Haven't taken a look at ViRS one though

Bro, VTi is the export VTEC model...here ur refering singapore imports ha ? if that the case Singa imported VTi are the VTEC civics and also non vtec civics also imported from singa and its badged as EXi , jus as in sri lankan EXi models....there was a one RS converted EXi (once was advertised for sale also in Autolanka..bearing some H series number with 1111 on the digits...), with a vtec head, fuel pressure regulator but with the D15Z1 engine block....this D15Z is the engine which doesnt comes with vtec..but obtains a more aggressive cam...with normal cam Lobes...this D15Z comes in the EXi model.....not in the VTi model...if a VTi has this d15Z engine block...either it's being rebadged by a punk ass or a converted to a VTEC...
