What is the experience you guys have regarding brake caliper painting? Does the paint peel off after some time? How much does it generally cost? Any recommended places to get this done?

Thanks

Did mine in gold 4 years back. cost less than 1000 for paint and labour. removing the wheels and masking certain bits was as hard as it got. Did it at the local paint shop. I went with normal paint. Its still looking all shiny and new. The only problem is brake dust tends to accumulate on the surface and make it look a little dirty. Will be changing colour to red soon :)

p.s. don't forget the sand off the rusty bits.

if you can find heat proof paint, then you can just air brush or can get done from local paint shop

I was also thinking of doing a DIY job. Checked TOA heat resistant but only 2 colors were available. Siver and black.

I got the calipers done this week at Sudath Auto, Kalubowila. They did a very good job. After cleaning the calipers, a coat of filler was applied. Then a coat of heat resistant silver paint. Next was the final coat of ruby read paint. The car was hoisted, and the inside & outside of the calipers were painted. Total cost: Labour Rs. 2000. Material Rs. 1200.

I had a suzuki cultus a few years ago. I took off the wheels one by one and painted em myself. just cleaned the dust off and used a toa can. Gold. came out well. just that you'll notice the dust on it as you drive. Didn't peel off or anything.

not to throw a wet blanket but toa usually doesn't hold too well...

i've done DIY stuff on bikes with them and they almost always came off after a while... in a few months actually!

maybe it's just me :P

still use the brand on and off but not with high expectations...

If you apply the paint without a coat of filler, and if you use non-heat resistant paint, it will definitely peel off.

I have red colour in mine done by previous owner, still looking good as knew. I assume it's done in Kandy Stafford dealer.

Guys are their any srapy cans with heat resistant paint? If so what are those brands? Any one tried with ebay?

Yes, there are spray cans. Try the popular hardware store near Jubilee Post (Nugegoda) or the paint shops near the Slave Island (Justice Akbar Mawatha). I don't remember the exact brand names though. Maybe someone else on the forum does.

Its not easy or good to paint callipers, apparently Paris Hilton wanted pink callipers in her pink Lambo, and it took a lot of effort from the ppl at Brembo to do it as they had to put the paint through many test. and it cost her $60,000!
