Fb14, Ideal Constant Speed For Better Petrol Consumption
pissa replied to Poobhathy Kannan's topic in NISSAN
he's asking about colombo....pretty tough to drive at 50,60 kmph constantly in colombo...at best of times... the above may be true for outstation where you can cruise at a constant speed for a longer duration...for colombo...well just forget it...don't accelerate hard only to stop within 10 meters, be gentle on the padel (no point getting to higher speeds only to apply brakes) and ignore the idiot behind you flashing his headlights and blasting his horn for you to close the gaps quickly -
given the present security situation, the seller has more risk of selling with open papers than the buyer. say the vehicle end up in the hands of your friendly neighbourhood pussies......and they use it to blow up someone or something, or to transport their explosive goodies and get caught...the police will track the owner, and guess what, it's you!!!....and they;ll expect you to come up with excuse as well...

you cannot exceed the permit value. however note, that the value given in the permit is for the CIF value (without tax), to illustrate with a permit for 1.6m you can get yourself a corolla which has a CIF value around 1.3m....with all the taxes the car comes to around 2.5m (25% of the total), so in that sense you can exceed the amount...but the CIF needs to be below the permit limitation
-
can you do that? i thought there were so many restrictions on permit vehicles....

Remember Not To Use 95 Octane Petrol + Full Synthetic Engine Oil Same Time
pissa replied to Nilantha's topic in The Lounge
just my 2 cents...i frankly dont agree with this whole sri lankan conditions thingy...other countries are hot, dusty, not all US roads (non highways) are smooth. (esp soon after winter) if anything it could be arributed the sri lankan driving styles..i've seen a lot of 1300, 1000 cc cars being pushed to their extreme..(in heavy traffic), our guys simply love to reach 60kmph or so in 100 meters only to do a hard brake within the nxt 5m. cutting across, flashing headlights, hard brake, heavy accelarations, hard brake etc etc. no wonder the engines get ruined pretty fast.... -
in Vans (as in this case) the biggest culprit are the seats...this is generally as a result of the seats being fixed later. most of the vans that come to SL are delivery with no seats in the back, they get fixed later. these seats, unlike car seats are not fully integrated into the body and are more or less like ordinary seats just revereted into the floor.

ok...question.... given the choice of parking under a tree, where it will be in the shade all day, with the potential of being bombed the shit out...and an option of parking out in the scorching sun, with obvious impact on the paint, what is the better option...? especially if this is a decision you need to make daily?...
-
that is what they claim to do....for instance in the example given, given that the car was insured for 50% of its value, from the claim of 50k, they'll give you 25k...however that is what they say... the question is, how can the determine the market value of a vehicle? i mean in the case of when its 50% off, its obvious...but say with a 10 year old vehicle...how can they be so sure of the value, normally the value falls within a range of about 3 laks..

brand new would be easy...just call up toyota lanka and ask them....
-
not bad...looks good on paper...let's hope things work out well. doesn't have much of a chance with all the corruption etc in the country....imagine 2 years down the line, i'm sure there will be road side tea shops and pavement vendors along the highways!!! and our very "disciplined" drivers doing U-turns and what not in the middle of the road... ...120km/h limit is faster than the speed limits on US highways!! which is around 65mph.....interesting... the southern express way is terminating at kottawa!...so all the vehicles will be traveling down high-level road.....not good, considering it's a traffic nightmare as it is....
-
majority of drivers in SL are so bloody selfish, inconsiderate, indisciplined etc etc etc etc.... there have been so many times, i wished i carried an iron rod of some sort in my boot to take out and beat the crap out of these morons...
-
if i'm not mistaken, toyota recently launched their own brand of motor oils in SL.

a bit scary as pedestrians and fellow drivers to realise that there may be not so mature drivers trying hard to kill someone on the narrow and crowded roads in Colombo and about....especially all these cars not built for speed in the hands of people who obviously are not skilled enough to drive fast in the first place....reminds me the story of the monkey and the bic razor.
-
if true it could also be because they are brand-new. Wait till they do about 1500 km before making a call.

you are wrong. it makes complete sense to have a media censorship at times of war, especially in view of the irresponsible manner in which certain media behave (maybe purposely), LTTE may be able to obtain information about the military HW, but they must be loving the way certain media simply gives out military strategy. no need to remind everyone how the last episode of complete media openness resulted in most of the DPU being wiped out.

very informative...thanks....I like the sound of bio-ethanol, :-) someone told me that the reason for the food price increase around the world was related to developed countries using their corn etc to develop fuel, and as such they've stopped giving out food for lower prices for the developing countries like they used to....

What is the use of fog lights? or fog lamps. i was under the impression that they offered good visibility when driving in dense fog. however i see a lot of guys driving with fog lights on at colombo during night, and i seriously don't recall there being any fog in colombo ever! so do they offer better visibility in ordinary driving conditions as well? or are the purely used for decorative purposes?

guys, sorry to open up an old tread...i have a slight query, the user manual of a brand new yaris, mentions to use unleaded petrol with an octane rating higher than 87, so technically the 90 octane on our petrol stations should suffice right? Or is it leaded? (as in not unleaded) is the 95 unleaded? the folks at Toyota lanka insist that the vehicle should only be pumped 95! (they obviously are not paying for it.... ) your thoughts please....
-
but 3.75 for 5 litres is about 75%!!!.....in other words if u pump 20 litres u only get about 15!....that's over 600 in rupees ain't it!!! shit damn these morons... on the same note....a 25% fraud would go noticed right, as in to get 40 L into your tank (for those with 42 L tank capacity) u'll have to pay for about 50+ liters and u know your tank doesn't hold that much....I;m thinking they do us in at much lesser amounts, as in 1 liter for every 10 or so....(still imagine the money they steal!!, with over 1000 of litres going out per day)..... There used to be a time (long time back) when i used to think that crime doesn't pay....so naive of me!!!!

Guys, what is the process of obtaining an insurance policy for a car, pending registration? is there any temporary scheme, where we can insure (fully-insure i.e.) and then update the information when we get the registration numbers?
-
Well I know a few guys who own manual Vios (VVT-I) and they claim outrageous fuel consumption figures of over 17-18 Km/l outstation on their manual Vios, while the auto counterparts are recording a very "meager" 14-15 km/l. (highly unfair, if you ask me!, they should be made to pay an extra tax or something!)
-
OH No, NO NO NO!!....dont let them start on this again!!!!........ if problem persists check the alternator

dont drive on the right side (wrong side) when your side is blocked. i see too often drivers just going on the wrong side and then trying to squeeze in when they get to the front of the queue...yeah right the rest of them had just stopped for a chat...sheez Don't flash your headlights at the vehicle moving in front of you, when there is a lot of traffic ahead of him/her. It's ok to do so if the guy in front is blocking a clear road. I often find a majority of people flashing their headlights when I'm stuck in traffic and keeping a moderate distance with the vehicle in front. As a habit i go very slow if the guy behind be starts flashing... Always flash your headlights to vehicles coming towards you, if there are cops in front!!!

knew it was something like that.... on a serious note, some examples of some sound economic principles the good governance RW followed during his tenure at the top?
