Charitable organisations? :D

Of course, i mean its not like Sri Lanka is full of corruption or anything

Then we have to fix seat belts to old cars????

And what exactly is wrong with that idea ? unlike number plates seat belts can be bought from third parties you know

There are lots wrong with that idea.Just because seat belts work on modern cars does not mean they work on the older ones too. That's ridiculous thinking. For example, ever heard of non collapsible steering columns? On a head on collision vehicles equipped with said columns, the steering WILL go straight through the chest impaling the driver. So the best thing you can do is to duck down before an unavoidable crash.Kinda hard to do that when your strapped to your seat isn't it?

Seat belts do save lives but not always.its not the last word when it comes to safety.Just because you add an after market belt kit it does not make a car any safer,on the contrary it makes most of the classics mobile death traps.,

Well my argument was based on the constant bitching of some people regrading the seat belt law, not about installing them on every car.

"So the best thing you can do is to duck down before an unavoidable crash" I dont think that would be the first thing that would come to anyone mind, to tuck down would mean to let go of the brakes and steering and pray you will survive. You wont know where you are going so you might go crash into something much worse, but i do see your point.

The thing is a classic car driver would have very less survival chances in a high speed frontal collusion irregardless of having a seat belt or not, but in rear end or a side impact the seat belt will hold them in place and prevent them from hitting the steering wheel or any other part that might harm them.

To be brutally honest Stig,I don't think you have any idea what a classic car driver will or will not do during a crash. This notion that 'installing seat belts is always better' is just ignorant.Thankfully the government agrees with me.As Peri said there are no B pillars on most classics, and if there are its hugely impractical to install a belt kit to it.So the alternative is a 3 or 5 point harness attached to the seat itself. The seats on most these cars are fixed to the floor boards by 1/2" screws, the force of even a minor crash will definitely rip them apart from the floor and hurl the tethered driver toward the windscreen. That is if the steering wheel hasn't beheaded you first.

To be honest you are actually right, my knowledge on classics isnt quite up to the mark :)

But you have to understand when i made that statement i wasn't talking about the classics in general, i was mainly talking about mainstream models which are still being used for general purposes.

Of course i understand that most classics, mostly convertibles wont have any mounting points. Besides if seat belts are installed it would totally take away the looks, now who would want to do that.

There is another issue Stig, Some of the old cars don't have points you can physically attach a harness too, apparently.

are you saying that old cars such as the ford escort and even colts dont have points.......how come these cars are driven in countries that have stricter laws...say for example the beetle...pre 1960s oval window...

This will be perfect for classic car owners who want to go the extra distance and personalize their cars, or indeed anyone attached to their jalopy. I wonder if one is able to customize their requirement in the same manner as one can with the regular numbering series i.e pay for a letter combination 30k number in advanced with your preferred 4 numbers.

Did you miss out on the fact that I said "some"?

what about 64- and 65-??

they say it's only for 18,19,300,301 and 302 numbers for now but in later they will consider giving english numbers registration to 65,252 and 253 as well.
