Errr.. is that a question you really need to ask??

If your brakes really work, the car might not pull forward. but you gotta be a complete moron to drive with your hand/emergency brakes on, cos it will wear off the pads/liners.

Most cars there is an alarm to indicate the handbrake is on if u try to drive away. And evn if not it will be indicating in the meter panel :D :D

Dumb question but ill answer cause i have done this on accident. Your car will move forward (not at normal passe)if its a front wheel drive car and the rear wheels will start to skid if your brakes are good or it might even heat-up the rear brakes and you could be in for some repairs. On a RWD car ? i have no idea but im not willing to try either.

Op. Ypu should ignore the idiots on this site. Nothing will happen if you keep the hand brake engaged. It actually reduces the fuel consumption. I do it all the time and now I get 37.6 KMPL.

I suppose you drove around for a bit with the handbrake on and you're asking 'cos you're wondering whether you damaged your car or the braking system by doing so?

Well rest assured you probably did no harm.

You'd have reduced the life of the rear brake pads by a bit, but brake-pads are cheap and replacing them is a quick, low cost affair. Beside the rear brakes (which are what the handbrake engages) don't wear as much as the front set does anyway, so all-in-all, no big deal.

If you want to check on the status of your handbrake after what happened: Find the steepest incline that you come across during your daily drive and pull over on the side of the road without impeding traffic. Engage the handbrake, while keeping your car in Neutral (N for automatics) and keep your foot over the foot brake without engaging it (just in case your car rolls back). Your car should stay stationary. If it does stay stationary you're all set, just remember to ask your mechanic to check on the brake-pad status when you get your tires rotated (every 10,000km or so). If your handbrake doesn't hold on the incline and the car tries to roll back: You should head over to your mechanic so he can check on your brakes for you.

just a simple answer like this should be the best which explains what he needs to check rather than bashing the poor fellow..... :speechless-smiley-004: i guess he was worried about the after effects of driving with the handbrake on...
