hii guys, I wont a Nissan Tiida. it does really well on fuel when its on highway and long distance travel. (Highway 18.5 kmpl and in normal road for long distance it works around 15 kmpl average) but I dont get a good fuel economy in the city limits. I get somewhere around 10 kmpl. I touch 4000 R.P.M at times when its in the city, is that the reason for low fuel efficiency?

expert opinions are welcome. cheers

sadly expert opinions might be a bit of overhead transmission for you, mate. i suggest you start by researching a little on how that whole acre of metal under your Latio's hood works.

your car still burns petrol when its idling, sitting in traffic. its not a hybrid. so that's where your economy goes. it matters not where you rev it to...

10kmpl in city with that white elephant of a car is excellent. if you want better, buy a viva elite or a maruti, or take the bus!

10 KMPL is not that bad in the city, especially if it's an auto box...I have no exp with that particular car but 4000RPM in city driving is a high yes.but it all depends on what gear you are in and the flow of traffic. So i doubt anybody here could give you an exact answer.Generally speaking, try to keep the revs between 1000 and 3000.That should give you a slight decrease of fuel consumption.

Yep most people get a bit heavy footed & burn excess fuel. Even in traffic if you can keep a slight momentum going, rather than go-stop-go all the time, will improve your consumption.

the best RPM is below 2000(1800-2200) i checked is with my 121,when i went katharagama, when im going i managed the rpm for above figures, for 281 km distance i have cost only 2076/=(old price) & returned back again i used to start the calculations form the same point on the return day (traffics are also low on this day) i drive my car with more acceleration ,finally when i came to gampaha,i filled my tank again & i have to pay 2900/=

10kmpl is the normal fuel consumption for the Tiida, a close relative owns one and it does only around 8 or 9 kmpl within city limits.

I know we all need to be more parsimonious and all that nowadays but my God has your life become THAT dull that you need to calculate fuel cost to that degree of analness? You really would be better off on the bus mate.

2000 RPM 100% of the time makes jack a dull boy freakin' noncy! You're better off going in the bus as said above! :D

Reaching 4000rpm is a lot in traffic but u still get 10kmpl, which is great.

When u are reving above 4k RPM, your car cannot see the traffic, it thinks you got a open road so will change gears accordingly. But no sooner it gets to the right gear you may break due to traffic.

Do you realize that most of your posts are just recycled stuff of what other members have already said earlier?...hmm weird...Who are you trying to fool mate?

Once again, there is no such thing as an "Ideal RPM to run a car" which is universally applicable

As we all know, RPM depends on a whole host of factors including but not limited to Car, Engine, Transmission type, Gear / transmission mode, load, road condition, driving condition, driving style; and the list goes on.

but by all means let's continue to discuss what we may or may not do to run most of our common daily drives a bit more fuel efficient

Just hope that it's not driving slow, hypermiling and other means of being a nuisance to the traffic!

With city driving there's little you can do to make your car more efficient as most of the time its stationary and idling.

When you do get on the gas go easy on the throttle, and accelerate gently. The concept behind this is that: The highest rate of fuel consumption occurs when accelerating so you want that to be minimized as much as you can. When stopping look ahead, anticipate the stop, and ease off the accelerator appropriately so as to coast to a stop. The key to driving conservatively in traffic is then essentially to accelerate as gently as you can, and coast as much as possible when coming to a stop.

But really even if you run your car at the optimal 2000 rpm as much as possible, roll forward, accelerate gently, creep along, coast as much as possible etc. At best you'll save yourself a half a litre or so per hundred kilometres.

So after all that bull crap what does it really get you? An additional Rs 50- Rs 100 in your pocket every month at best? You could probably save more petrol by just driving normally with the A/C off. At the end of the day is it really all worth it? Are you going to go through all that fuss for what is essentially a cup of tea and a fish bun?

If I were you I'd just enjoy the car and drive however. Life's too short to fuss about stuff like that Toyota 1990.

Yeah, those who are opting to accelerate gently, coast to stop, and creep along at 20kmh to save fuel better not do it in front of my car! :P

Or just step off our elephant and start running! Buy a bike and cycle to work! And don't forget to put one of those fingers on each hand up at all those yobs in their cars revving their way to work!! Woohoo!
