Don't panic. First change the battery in the key and check if the problem goes away.

lol ! Good advice: That's where I'd start. :D

@ 'yasasu' Also:

1. Remotes take different types of batteries, some may resemble watch batteries and some are of the short cylindrical variety that is found in cameras. I'd just open it up to see what's inside and match it accordingly.

2. When opening your remote up use a wooden or soft plastic probe in order to ensure you don't end up with indentations on your remote. Try using a popsicle stick sharpened to a point with a knife (good excuse to justify eating a popsicle) or use a knife to shapen the handle of a disposable plastic spoon and use that to pry the two sides of the remote open.

Conditions affecting operation

The smart key system uses weak radio waves. In the following situations,

the communication between the electronic key and the vehicle may be

affected, preventing the smart key system and wireless remote control from

operating properly. (Ways of coping: P. 452)

When the electronic key battery is depleted

Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large display,

airport or other facility that generates strong radio waves or electrical

noise

When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone, cordless phone or other

wireless communication devices

When the electronic key is in contact with, or is covered by the following

metallic objects

• Cards to which aluminum foil is attached

• Cigarette boxes that have aluminum foil inside

• Metallic wallets or bags

• Coins

• Hand warmers made of metal

• Media such as CDs and DVDs

When multiple electronic keys are in the vicinity

When carrying or using the electronic key together with the following

devices that emit radio waves

• Another vehicle's electronic key or a wireless key that emits radio

waves

• Personal computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs)

• Digital audio players

• Portable game systems

If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to

the rear window

My brother is having the same problem (Allion 260) and we have done all the posible things like, Changing the battery, Clean the circuit etc but no luck, He got his second remote key as well, so i adviced him to use that and try, very first day the car responded fine but, today morning, again the same problem started. He unable to start, lock or unlock the car. Note: some times, the car responds and getting lock and unlock and able to start the car (pushbutton start)

Since I tried all the posible things, what is your next advice for me? Security sensor problem? Note: This is the factory fitted Allion remote key system. Not locally fitted one.

When you opened up the key, did you notice the switches? if they're micro switches you can try using contact cleaner to clean them. My car has a third party system and a few switches were behaving erratically, so I soldered on new switches (its a common type and they're freely available in SL, I just showed the guy a switch I had previously desoldered) and now it works perfectly.

The key question is is the key always like this or is it an intermittent problem?

Can your brother also try keeping the key right on top of the push start button and then trying to start the car. If this works there is nothing wrong with the remote. You just live in an area with electro magnetic interference or a radio signal jammer like you get in high security areas.

You mentioned that your key is not working in some occasions..right?..have you checked whether it's happening in the same places..It maybe due to high frequency of radio waves..just check on that,If the problem not solved after changing the battery. I have faced the same problem in Dambulla golden temple..car park as there is a radio station operating there..but after that there was nothing..

Same thing happened to one of my friends,

But because he knew from the number he went to a watch shop when he changed the battery of the spare.

This comes to show how much agents rip you off. But the company says it is specially made for the car

@OP

Try to keep the remote near the push button and start it up if it refuses to start as the don said and use the mechanical key to open it if it doesn't open.

May be if the spare was not used for a long time it's battery must have also gone flat.

Try replacing the battery,

Remotes where advertised around Rs.40 000.00 at Adv*nc*, so if the battery thing doesn't work take the remote to them, they will try to repair it if it doesn't work you'll have to buy a remote and programme it.

I once inquired about any faults about the system inside the car from the company and they told that there where not reported yet but the unit would cost Rs.500000.00 if replacement was needed.

Ok I called him and he informed that the keeping the remote closer to push button and the "pushstart" button activates the (Green light) and he could be able to start the car, but unable to lock it or unlock it even closer to the car like 2 feet away. Also he said he cannot even unlocked the car by keeping the remote in hand. (normally when you touch the driver side handle unclocks the car)

Also, when he get in to the car, sometimes the "Key Lock" sign blinks when try to start it and also, sometimes it flahses after starting the car.

What could be the problem; he experiencing the same with both remotes and this is factory fitted default central locking remotes. (not any 3rd party stuff)

Places he got stuck; Near NSB headoffice, Kalapaluvava area, Koswatta and Malabe area.

PS: his one remote has CR 2030 3V battery and other one is CR 2032 3V; both gives the problem.

Since he has got a replacement remote and changed the batteries, the problem is unlikely to be the transmitter.

The only two possibilities are a device creating strong electro magnetic interference to the signal from the remote (and there are quite a few places in and around Colombo where these remotes do not work.

The only other possibility is an issue with the receiver module......

One place is outside car park near MC. I couldnt unlock the car and unlocked the door manualy, triggering the siran(Drawing lot of attention :) ) then a guy at the car park gate came to my rescue saying its a common thing there due to telecommunication towers in near by building.

Guys thanks alot for your suggestions, looks like the the CR 1620 v3 (should be correct in the previous post even) Battery gives the problem and the CR 2032 works fine at Malabe, Rajagiriya area, Adviced him to change both the batteries to Brand New CR 2032 v3 and try again. Will wait for his call.

Thanks again...

P.S. : I checked mine and its the same CR 2032 v3
