All Aluminium Bodied Engine

I read the below text in the wiki site about the K series engines,

Suzuki evolved a New Model "Alto K10". Powered by three-cylinder units displacing 998cc. The engine is one of the best units in it class and is the only 1.0 litre twin cam engine available. The engine produces 68PS at 6200rpm and a healthy torque rating of 90Nm at 3500rpm. Car has 5-speed transmissions and is smooth to operate. However the Alto's feels a tad better to use. The engine too is more refined and not as harsh as contemporaries. The power to weight figure is an impressive 88.88PS per tonne.

How durable the aluminium would be when it is used in engines, are there any other motor companies use aluminium engines.

As for your question, yes there are manufacturers who build aluminium engine blocks (Toyota/Nissan included - afaik Vitz 1000CC engine is all aluminium). Main reason is aluminium is lightweight and provides better power to weight ratio. When the car itself is not designed with durability in mind (it's been a while since the days of Morris Minors and Peugeot 504s), durability of the engine is of least concern.

There are lots of manufacturers using all aluminium engines these days and its becoming more and more common especially with increasing regulations etc. These have been around for quite a long time and they dont really have any major problems.

There were aluminum engine blocks before the 2nd world war motor cars, they had the sleeves with nitride steel.

I think the majority of small petrol engines are of all aluminium design. In fact it might actually be all because the only cast iron blocks I've heard of are in old diesels!
