Is there any major disadvantage in mazda cars, for them to have a poor 2nd hand market and not to be as popular as toyota or nissan? (I mean fuel consumption, availability of spare parts, etc) I have no idea why that is can someone help?????

Is there any major disadvantage in durex condoms? They don't seem to be as popular as preethy ... oh well... that's because the average person on the road is a toyota-driving preethy user...

That doesn't mean preethy is superior is it?... same story with Mazdas.

(PS. I don't want to talk about a second hand market for condoms :D)

Like everything else in this age much depends on marketing hype as opposed to the real situation. The second-hand market depends lot on availability of second hand spares. Then on the price of new spares. Then comes the vehicle's reliability. Lot depends on the market push of the agent. Unfortunately I had my experience with a Mazda 929 for 13 years but not in Sri Lanka and hence it's not a fair comparison. Once I had to overhaul the engine and it was done for a pittance with head facing done at the agent. Imagine what you would ahve to pocket out if you were to the same here.

One of the things I checked for when buying mine was rust, as they seem to be probe to corrosion problems. That didn't deter me though, and don't let it put you off either. However DO check the wheel wells and lower sills for signs of rust, bubbling, etc carefully. If you do notice brown spots or bubbling: Check if its surface rust and if so, use it as a bargaining point to bring the price down as its something that you will need to take care of after you purchase it. Surface rust when addressed quickly by a competent body-shop / painter is not really much of an issue. I didn't really have too may mechanical issues with mine but I can't speak for the whole range, as its hard to generalize. What model is it exactly that you're interested in?

From my experience:

I love how the transmission on the Mazda 3 ( Mazda Axela) is setup- it makes the thing quite sporty to drive. Its a great little economy car. For the price you pay it has a really nice interior, a decent engine and a very capable transmission.

I really like the old Mazda 6 (Mazda Atenza) - and by that I mean the first generation (2002-2008) of that model. I haven't driven the current version, but the 2002-2008 version was a fun car to drive, while still offering the space and practicality of a mid-sized family car.

The Mazda Tribute (2004-2007) is an on-road SUV / family hauler that I found quite decent but sluggish. It wasn't that amazing to drive, well it wasn't bad; but it was nothing to rave about. Mechanically it was sound and the interior was easy to live with; I used it for quite a bit with no major issues. Essentially its a great family car, a decent on-road SUV, and overall offered quite good value for the price I paid.
