Hi,

Do you really like if car has side door molding or without it?

For Example, Axio & Allion don't have it while Premio & Vios have it.

Curious it's a luxury option when it's available in Premio.

Ya It's just for safety. ya may be..

Since when did sticking a piece of chrome plated plastic to a car become 'Luxury'?

Yep, in fact it does look like a "Handiye 3 Wheeler" to me :)

I don't think serves a purpose really. More a form factor than a function. It's up to personal taste really. My cars don't have them cos I don't like them. You might want them if you do...

Yes and no...originally these strips came along to protect the door from banging against objects and getting damaged. Thus, it was fitted in such a way that the molding ran along the body line such that it would be the first thing to make contact if the door was to hit something...granted it all depends on what you hit but I think the general idea was to prevent dings from hitting other cars at parking lots and garage walls, etc. However nowadays even that small functionality seems to have been lost and in most cases it is just plain ridiculous and too blingy.

Personally I think it lost its original purpose when they started to put the protective strips along the edges of the doors

Ya Premio has it while Allion Doesn't. May be Executives tend to hit vehicle on objects frequently than young generation as 2 models were introduces solely for those 2 target audience respectively but wonder why Vios has been caring it.... :)

lol...maybe they are presuming the "youthful" type are slimmer that their "executive" counterparts and can easily slide in/out of the car without wide opening the door and banging it against something :)...ooh...without the molding there is less drag therefore it makes the car more fuel efficient ! That would totally fly with the SL Premio/Allion buyers.

Seriously though...if you look at the shape of the Premio and the location of where the molding is....there is plenty of "door" that will hit against the garage wall or car parked next to it before the mold comes in to contact (unless you hit something low) so like Komi said..most of the time these things tend to be more for fashion than function. However there are cases where function is still provided; I can see a Peugeot 207 estate out of my window that is parked and in that the molding is such that it would be the first thing that does come in to contact.
