Small Vehicle Suitable For A Lady Driver

Hi all,

My wife is nagging me about buying her a small hatch back type car. My budget is 1.2 million. Below are the requirements;

1. Transmission must be Auto

2. 1999 or later

According to my research I found only Nissan march K11 (1998 - 2001) model, which fits my budget and requirements. I have a normal size car (Mitsubishi Cedia 1300CC GQ number). I work abroad and don't do much driving in Sri Lanka, though I have plans to return in another two years. What do you guys suggest; should I sell my Mitsubishi and get my wife nissan march? or else should I keep both? Her intention is to get use to handle the nissan march and finally sell it before the end of the year and use my Mitsubishi. Although my friends suggest that I sell/trade my Mitsubishi and get her a Nissan and buy me something later on once I settle in Sri Lanka.

Do you guys know any other decent hatchback type cars with auto transmission within my budget except nissan march?

I can think of two hatchbacks with Auto Transmission but they are probably a bit above the budget.

1) Suzuki Alto - Japanese version 2003-4 ish though they are usually priced around the 1.5 Mill mark

2) Perodua Kelisa - you can get a manual for 1.2 but auto's are going for around 1.4 Mill range

I say sell the cedia, its a good car, but it does not make much sense to keep it idle for 2 years, and with the extra money you can buy your wife a newer hatch like a viva elite. Read this thread there are some suggestions for a budget below 1.3m.

I do suggest you to ask her to use Cedia. If someone learns driving with correct basics, size of the vehicle[well... it may be different with large car,SUV or truck. But this is a cedia]does not matter much. I was thinking same as you 3-4years back and searching for an auto hatchback for wife. One of my friend gave me the same advice what I gave you and now my wifey drives even SUV/Crossover with confident. If I bought her an auto she would still be hogging roads in a march or a Vitz. So better to find a good driving instructor than finding a car. And otherwise she will never drive a manual in future.

hi

if you all can tolerate , a two door alto ( 2002-2004) or a two door mitsubishi minica ( 2002- 2004) might come in to your budget

Completely correct.

The keep the cedia and teach wife how to drive it,

It's all about developing the confidence,

How true. If only women realized this more often!

I think the Cedia is a better option than March too. I think we don't give woman drivers enough credit and our driving instructors enough discredit :)

Having said that the K11 is a great car. Even the 1L pulls well and after some effort get to decent speed, but I hear the 1300cc is much better on fuel and will have better torque too. Very basic car, but rock solid engineering and doesn't break down. Drove one for 4 years in the UK and have managed to reach 110mph with 5 big guys inside (this was the 1000cc manual).
