Rumeth Rathubalage
Hi guys, my budget for the performance of the car is 1 mil, I just want to ask whether it is worth to swap my Civic's D15z4 non-vtec engine with K20a type r engine, or rebuild a D15b 3 stage vtec engine with performance crank, conrods, pistons, cams, fuel rail, etc. and swap with a hondata custom tune ecu??!

AVANTE
Just an opinion. The D15B is a lighter engine so you might see some of the original handling being retained. A quick Google check says about 40-45kg difference between the D15B and K20A (without fluids) which is the same as a young teenager being tucked away under the hood. Also wouldn't you need to mess around with the mounting points if you want to put a K20A in there? I think the D15B build will be easier to live with maintenance wise and I think by chucking the K20 in there, you will have to deal with the RMV and the weighing process and other boring stuff (someone correct me on this, will the d15b swap have to go through the exact same too? Or is just a receipt from the shop where the engine was purchase is enough?) But the K20 will make your car more powerful and it will be unique too. It's all a matter of personal preference. But anyway you do it, it will be awesome!
PerfMad
Eitherway you have to get it approved from RMV which of course going to be a pain in the A**. I remember what presea lover had to go through just to update his vehicle colour in the book.
PerfMad
Personally i would love to have a k20 with a custom turbo kit if you are willing to spend 1mil just for the performance. But keep in mind that it will need alot of fabrication and change of existing parts. if you are going ahead with this, better have a specialist do the job. Otherwise you'll not only waste ur money but a reliable car as well.

Expand I think the limit was brought down to 200 or 300cc which would preclude the ability to legally move up to a 2000cc K20 but check with the RMV

Expand The point about reliability is very valid @PerfMad - no point going to all that effort if the car won't run right - a predicament a lot of people who have tried to modify/upgrade their cars have (but not all will freely admit or accept ?) @Rumeth Rathubalage do you have a particular power output you want to hit with your build or is it more just to improve the driving dynamics of the car? Basically, no more Evos or wrxs. But of course, it's not stopping the JZX Tourer V conversions happening around (upping from 1800/2000cc to 2500cc). Or Maybe it's because those people are retreating to some "effective" methods.

So basically this eliminates a lot of common engine swaps right out of the window! So much for dreaming to get an SR20DE in the pulsar ? It takes a LOT to get those swaps and transplants running relatively reliably.
