Uhhh....you AC compressor could have been broken and not spinning ? So when it did not spin the screeching noise could have been the belt slipping and the pulley itself trying to break free and start spinning. When the pulley did not spin and the belt being under tension, it might have broken off.

Now....why was the AC compressor broken ? Did you take it off the car and check what has happened to it ?

You also might want to check the alternator and power steering pump to make sure they are not causing any unnessary tension/force on the belt and are working properly.

That's your thermostat. You could technically run the vehicle without it, however I recommend getting a new one if the current one is faulty. Running without a thermostat means that your engine will not get upto operating temperature as quickly.

Before that, you need to find out why the radiator fan is not automatically turning on. Does it work when you you turn on your A/C? Also, check the cooling system to see whether there are any blocks/leaks.

What @speed8 said!

You can check if the cooling fan is faulty by switching on the AC. The fan should switch on and off automatically with your AC compressor. If the fan doesn't turn on, it might be a faulty fan, dodgy wiring or a loose connection.

As for coolant flowing back to the expansion tank when you lift your foot off the accelerator, it could be that you are using a wrong radiator cap where the cap is below the recommended pressure rating. It could also be because your thermostat valve is removed causing coolant to flow more freely and cause excessive pressure in the top coolant hose (return line) to the radiator.
