I think he uses the Auto Gear unit for the Reverse gear only. The rest must be on the handle as usual.

i doubt that he uses it for reverse. note in the photo's that he has left in R instead of Park!! nobody does that when they switch the engine off.

I have seen this at Trincomalee railway station. They were trying to remove the train which has the engine disabled from the rail way track to an another track inorder to give the platform to next train.

it would have been more sensible to have used the 2nd train to pull/push this particular carriage rather than get these poor blokes to push it... thats Sri lankan government service for ya (who hapen to be standing right there 'overseeing this'.....) hahaha!!
