sorry machan, doubt i have the link - managed to save some of the images form that site though...

will upload a few more when time permits...

most of these had supposedly been taken at various garages n the like n the bulk seemed to be abandoned...

there are a few huge collections in rags - but getting images of those isn't gonna be easy... :(

rumour has it that these lots contain everything from vintage British cars all the way upto American Muscle! :o

Lots of Garages across the country have these rusting old cars lying around..its a sad sight and I always wonder how they ended up there. Did the garage take the car for parts or did the owner just abandon them for a couple of decades? I mean who gives a car to a garage without giving their contact details..

well dunno if it's the same with cars but i remember seeing a few decaying older bikes at one of my ex-bike-garages in borella...

The garage owner told me that after giving the bike for repairs and finding out the cost of such a repair...the owners' just stop coming to claim the bike for some unknown reason and the garage guy has no choice but to keep it till the owner shows up someday... :angry-smiley-048:

i remember seeing an FZR250 getting totally wasted outside exposed to the elements :(

maybe it's the same with cars... when owners find out it's beyond economical repairs within their abilities they just junk them?

Err mini, wasnt there a old range rover classic in this yard?? I presume it to be a bullet proof from Pres Premadasa's era.

Not aware of the Range Rover..but I heard The most talked about Ranger was given to Navy. Many Ex-politico bullet-Proofs/Limousines in Airforce inventory.

I remember seeing one of President Premadasa's (or was it J.RJ's) b.proof range rovers at the government stores (near lake-house) about 10- 12 years ago .. a beige one if my memory recalls correctly.. it was the 1st B.proof vehicle i saw, and at that age was WOWed by glass so thick :D

Ok i cant take this anymore. some1 (with the time, money and passion of course) needs to take these cars out of their misary and bring them back to their former glory, arent there any old guys in this forum that are retired with too much money and time in their hands. it would be interesting. Athough very expensive and time consuming i think the end result would be VERY rewarding.

hehe, i dont think you have to be old to have interests in these cars, S_N has quite an eye for 'older' cars too, though i dont know to comment on if he has too much money and time :D

on the topic, have any of you noticed an old dark blue beetle that was rotting on the empty block of land next to the petrol shed on havelock road (between Police Park and Tummulla).. yesterday i saw a bunch of people with its trunk (ahem i mean hood) open trying to start it up.. I'm presuming someone bought/got it and wanted to take it away.

I've also seen an old range rover rotting in a garage around the pamankada area. inquired, but the garage owner said the vehicle owner had given it for repair and hadnt shown up in some time (and from the looks of it time=years)..

right on :)

but project cars can be a costly affair and sometime one won't realize how much trouble they've landed them selves into until its too late to turn back and too much money has been invested...

unless its something very very very rare , the funds invested can never be recouped :(

Bollocks :P I only wish i had that kinda resources at hand!

@ Dilesh, actually machan, just behind the petrol shed is a specialist Volkswagen Mechanic, he often parks the cars that he cant fit into the garage on that bare plot of land... this blue bug is one of those...

sorry, i dont quite remember the number of it (or even if it had one at the time)... I think it was a maroon one though (once again not sure, this was about 2 years ago)..

as for location: ok, Leave pamankada towards kohuwala. Go past kushmi and start climbing the very first hill, as you reach the top of the hill and as the road curves to the left, and the garage is on the right. (if i remember right there were some old refrigerators in the yard too).. the garage has a wall so you wont see the jeep from the outside (unless you're traveling in the opposite direction)
