Hard To Accelerate, Maruti 800

Question

Posted

I find it difficult to accelerate the engine (Maruti 800, Carb) as soon as I start the engine in the morning.

But if I let it idle for few minutes (5 minutes or more), gradually it becomes ok.

Is this normal ?

nope it's not normal...

i would assume when you say "difficult to accelerate" the motor is "missing" or not firing well....

most probably your sparkplugs are bad...

after some use, plugs tend to not fire too well when it's cold but catches up once they are heated up

I bought the car in August 2007.

Carb cleaned, contact point & Piston rings replaced in November 2007, (After 3 months).

Complete tune up done & carburator cleaned again at A*W in January 2008.

Mileage 142000

machan Jayanath if you had done 142k on that Maruti these things are to be expected as Marutis are flimsy cars (no offence intended just my observation),what is the YOM of ur car?

Best bet is to get rid of it and buy a better car, even an older Jap car like the 13-14 Sri Lancer GLX (C11/C12) is a much better car!

Sorry!

Only 3500 Km only for the past one & half years.

Looks like you’ve done everything in terms of the engine tuning & plugs –

Pulling issue- is with AC on or off? What’s the year of manufacture?

Not to put u in a bad feeling but 142 is quite a high figure.

What did A*W say @ the recent service – after all it’s their baby ???

hmm...that seems to be very little running...

If you full tuneup included plugs also... i too would assume there is a possibility of a vacuum leak!

Year of Manufacture is 1996

Pulling isuue is with A/C off.

If I switch on A/C, condition is worst.

Does this problem related to considerable engine shake in the morning & unbearable shake in the afternoon after a run in the morning.

Sorry for troubling you all.

my gut feeling is one of the pistons does not fire properly if it is shaky all the time. It could be due to

1. Problem in the electric current passes to the plug

2. problem in the plug itself.

since you're very sure about the electronic side of it, get a compression test done on all pistons. Not to disappoint you, but it could be little worst as it may due to malfunctioning/burnt valve of one of the pistons. I may be wrong here but that's the last I can think of if everything else is checked and sound.

good point but if the pistons are bad...or even valves for that matter...shouldn't the condition of plugs be a dead give away?

Agree.

Having had these cars in my College days ( long time ago in India lol)

I suggest a simple remedy.

Change the plugs, wires etc.

Take it out for a good De carbonising run. Thrash the bugger a bit.

3500 kms in 1.5 years = lack of use.

She needs loosening up,..just like a woman. No use = tight .

use = loose = good performance LOL.

needless to say that.... however since he was very sure about the plugs and distributor and all electrics related to igniting the plug, I had to think of other possibilities...
