Project R - front end

Finally. At long last, the ITR sedan conversion is done!! Here she is in all her glory. More glam pics in the upcoming months!

Few niggles I’m trying to fix. The front end didn’t come with fender liners/mudguards. Sourced those from uk.

Also I was using a lengthened shifter linkage from an ek3 with a d series box. Apparently that’s why shifting into reverse and 2nd are difficult. Waiting on a proper ITR shifter linkage from the UK as well. Along with the stock dual bend shifter. C36013F7-5E7B-44F6-8ED0-260BE85C997B.thumb.jpeg.8eb40e037b9e60a25d843898c3b91cb3.jpeg

Nice....the new face looks much nicer :)

Will you be blackening out the red circles ?

(on a funnier note...now you know what your car would look like if you went mad and decided to put 4 huge fog/driving/spot lights on the bumper :D)

Looking lovely here! :D How are things @Komisiripala? I see you're checking in...All good buddy?

As you can see, I've been reduced to re-reading old resto-build threads and doling out advice on how to check if batteries are charged to keep myself entertained. *Ah! I should go read a book or something-The horror my life has become! (Am even contemplating reading!)

But I digress, how are things with your ladies? (Eaaasy, don't need details all your exploits, looking for an update on just the cars! Thank you...) All good? How's the Datsun doing? Any new updates there?

hi machan. as much as it looks lovely there, the paint wasn't right. had to get the black accents done later on the front and rear bumpers. she's pending a full paintjob anyways.

apart from that the honda is more or less done. i'm toying about with an idea for a digital dash, but that's it for now. it just runs, and i'm happy with it doing just that.

the datsun is finished too. just some final touches on it. i mean they never really finish do they? its getting a new clutch etc but the shipment is stuck with kapruka global shop and isn't looking pretty at the moment.

meanwhile i have the don's cars to take care of as well, so hands are full of 510's these days. loving every moment of it. cheers man!

Wha??! A paint job so soon? What a cut and polish won't err...cut it? No seriously, seems a bit soon for a complete paint job. What's wrong did the paint peel or bubble etc?

And you guys tracked down another 510? No way>? When did that happen? Dead cool...

@varotone Confused?

lol. No worries I'll explain- Was reading through some of my favorite resto-threads here on Autolanka to cut through the boredom. And decided to see if there were any updates on any of Komisiripala's builds as I could see that @matroska and @Komisiripala had logged into comment on some girl hitting them up on AL...Take a look (at the other car threads, not the girls hitting him up...) He's got another thread on a car he built up: A Datsun 510. It'll be right up your alley, based on your current project. Lots of good reading either way...

Machan I look after don’s 510’s in Sri Lanka. So I have a 1600 two door SSS sedan, he had an 1800 two door SSS sedan, a 1600 wagon, two four doors and a 521 ute.

ok, ok that’s a fleet. We are restarting walkers tours ?

it’s been 8 years since paint and some parts are peeling off. Uneven and yellowed. Going for a whiter white. Or maybe Phoenix pearl yellow.

loll ! That IS quite a fleet!

Wow, it's been 8 years already? Oh boy! It feels like 4 or 5....hmm I guess you do need a new paint job by the sounds of it. But to be fair, it seems like the previous paint job didn't last as long as it should have too: I guess it spent lots of time outside, which probably didn't help much!

inherent problem with championship white. it yellows. and a few flakes chipped off here and there. the trouble's of daily'ing it. frankly i'm glad it lasted this long. i'm actually looking to move the car along and start on something else. would rather give it on a high note and retire like sangakkara!

Even if a certain colour develops a tinge, a good cut/polish will restore original hue.

No paintjob job drastically changes colour unless due to sub-par prep work, incorrect mixing or the clear coat gone bad.

Mr/Doctor Siripala, If only there was someone who tried to warn you about the sh*tty paintjob you were getting...Oh wait!

I'm going to buy a car in SL for 2 mil while being in Germany. Then I'm going to put up a public raffle draw and pick one lucky winner to gift that car when I have 600 participants registered in the raffle draw. Registration fee for each participant is Rs. 5000/-
Why didnt I think of this before

So for a spirited convo like this old times; ?BYD
My father has gone ninja about getting one, despite being the new hype/fad here these are common across the world and I've seen a few cross 100,000km in Nepal and Australia.
Seal - Looks nice, very premium interior but too low for my applications
Sealion - Very Premium, feels very well built, BUT that 1.5L on that reasonable chunk of car with a measly 18KW battery seems like a recipe for trouble, incase they sink in value at least the fuel economy must justify that (They say it's a BYD engine - though the lore is it is a hyundai engine)
Atto 3 - Most sold from their lot apparently, common af, Seems to be the best bang for buck IMHO, Its electric since BYD is famed for that, Interior is kinda good, the thing is larger than a vezel but not too large like the Sealion, cheap mobility I guess with less things to go wrong
Dolphin, almost a smaller atto and again too car like and not suited for my application.
JK nailed it on the price and distribution but the only guaranteed thing here is the lot are gonna muck up the aftersales. The Kandy center staff behave like the crew from a Govt. post office.
What are your thoughts and opinions? Could this be the next Wagon R or is this a passing fad like the Micros of 2000s-2010s?

I have an empty parking slot at home previously occupied for 6 years by the starlet and 3 months by an AD wagon -what would be a bang-for-the-buck fun shitbox? Preferably auto as I live in a crowded suburb that has sapped the joy of stick shift out of my system.
