  1. yup..i think its a pretty cool car. they released the civic Si sedan in the US a few months ago..so this is pretty much the jap/euro version of that I'm guessing.. at least the Si sedan is pretty nice looking in the flesh i think. definitely not as fun as the coupe or a traditional hatch back type R..but if you're in a situation where you need to have a 4 door car..its a good alternative to a basic civic if you want something sportier.
  2. that's quite an extreme statement! look at the electric hybrids out there...apart from the entry level ones, there are quite a few that are really good..for example the Lexus GS450h...and pure electric cars the like the tesla that can leave most traditional gasoline cars in its dust (I'm not saying I'd prefer an electric over a gasoline car just yet though). All the article said was that these cars would be more efficient and environmentally friendly if they really were being run with ethanol, but the problem is in the supply of ethanol to car owners. you should really read the article and not twist the story around! Of course I agree that car manufacturers are crooks trying to find an easy way out, but that's not to say that these fuel-flexible vehicles are any worse than their traditional counterparts...if anything, given the right compliments (i.e.- actual ethanol for the cars to run on), then they would definitely be more environmentally friendly..and hence a good thing to have around. they shouldn't stop producing these things, they just need to make alternative fuels more readily available. And don't even get me started on 2 stroke Bajajs!
  3. ..and quite a few older vitara 2 doors too. but they've always seemed like chick cars to me...probably because i honestly dont remember the last time I saw a guy driving one
  4. yeah..i agree. can't tell much about how good a movie it'll be but at least it seems to have quite a few really nice cars in it. A lot of them crashing too..which is a little heartbreaking I guess! Trailer- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa6-0bIbDw4 Is it just me or does that thing seem like it was understeering worse than a Vectra VXR when it hit that wall?? But then again, he definitely was making that corener way too fast from a really bad angle way too close to a cement wall! Sure this wasn't some shot that wasn't intended to take place for the movie??
  5. yup..that is how it works. at least thats how it used to. there was some big scandal about lots of people creating fake NGOs to bring down duty free monteros, prados etc. wasn't there? but yeah...when cars belonging to embassies and NGOs are sold off you'd have to pay the tax on the vehicle if you don't have any kind of duty free priviledges.
  6. well yeah, this is pretty much a body-kitted version of the current (new) G35. Its not a brand new car obviously..just like all manufacturers do, its just the same chassis with slightly redesigned lights and a few things here and there. and i don't think it looks too much like the CLS at all..especially in the skin.
  7. No, neither the Mazda 3 nor the Miata come with a rotary engine! If either of them did, I think the novelty of the RXs would be lost! Does the 2.3L version of the 3 come to the asian market? It seems like a decently powered car...I especially like that engine combined with the wagon/5door body style..for some reason I think it looks a lot better than the sedan.
  8. I don't really agree with what you said just there! There is a big environmental issue in front of us, and we need to address it. No matter how much I love cars it's still a fact that they do harm the environment in many ways (emissions, oil consumption, etc..). If anything, I think lately many car brands have been in a huge horsepower war trying to make their cars more powerful (theres a huge array of mid-sized family sedans available now that produce between 250-350hp..why???) that if anything they've done less than they could to become more fuel efficient and environmentally conscious. They seem to spend so much money to squeeze that much more HP out of their engines...if they only put some in to make the cars more fuel efficient (this is especially true for American manufacturers). Honda has been one of very few car companies that really haven't joined this HP war and I'm fine with that. They still make some great cars and offer enough diversity in their line-up to suit almost the whole market base. And I think it's great that they're taking their environmentally conscious attitude to F1 because 1-it'll get a lot more people talking (and hopefully doing something) about these issues, and 2- whatever technologies they do come up with to maintain a balance of power/fuel efficiency will trickle down to their road cars.
  9. llol..who makes that thing? looks horribly built..doesn't look real actually! plus those specs are just horrible by todays standards!
  10. I think the R8 looks and seems like an amazing car. Just read a review on thecarenthusiast a few days ago...got some great pics and comments on the car on there (http://www.carenthusiast.com/roadtests.html?mode=article&id=1723). as for this A5..i'm not a fan of the rear, but i sort of like the styling of the new audis...quite a bit more pointy and aggressive than the old ones (especially the front)..and their interiors are just perfect i think. looks like a great car overall!
  11. isn't that the Galle Fort in the background?
  12. Just found this on youtube...found you guys might find it interesting to watch! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uTgU30xsO4
  13. i'm pretty sure they still have the x's...i've definitely seen AWD variants of pretty new 3 series'...so they did have them for sure at least till a year or two ago..i doubt that they took it away. it's a big deal in the US market at least to have AWD variants of all these cars..especially the wagons...and I drive by a beautiful 330xi sedan on my way to school everyday near my house..probably less than 2 years old.
  14. well, i think there's quite a difference between pirating software and music. in the case of software, there truly is a huge cost involved in developing the software, and all the R&D that goes into it...so one can argue that they have a legitimate reason to charge pretty high prices. But when it comes to music...it's just a big scam run by huge record labels trying to promote absolute crap and making people listen to what they want to be the next "thing" and cutting off independent artists and smaller labels...so i'm all for "robbing" every penny i can off those scums. enough venting about that on my part now and yes, if you're willing to look there are quite a few alternatives to expensive software like MS Office. I started using Open Office last year..and I think its great. It does everything that my computer at work does on office, sometimes better without some of the stupid, annoying quirks that MS office has...and has advantages like built-in PDF conversion tools. speaking of operating systems...is the price of a a brand name computer still that much more expensive than a locally built system in sri lanka? i used to assemble my own stuff, but now it seems like the cost of a brand name system is equal or less than building it when you consider the time and effort it takes, warranties and customer support involved, and the fact that you get licensed operating systems with the package (for whatever that's worth ). i guess this is still not the case in sri lanka with the very small list of options you have when it comes to brand name dealers and the model line ups they carry.
  15. man those guys are lucky! damn..i'd probably flip out or faint or something if I saw such a talked about prototype pull into a gas station!
  16. nice! where'd you get the picture? are there more? i'm sure there are..nobody would just take one picture of it and stop at that!
  17. lol..somethings definitely wrong! it was freezing cold in california last month, to the point that 75% of the state's orange crop literally froze over...and now its warm and sunny out here when its supposed to be raining cats and dogs. on the other hand, the east coast is having the coldest winter on record with everything freezing over and Chicago advising people to not stay outdoors for more than 5 minutes for fears of frostbite! Anybody watched "An inconvenient truth"? Great documentary about this whole deal. But damn, yeah the Nur does look like fun with all that snow around..I miss being able to slide around and have all kinds of fun in parking lots without any serious tire or body damage!
  18. lol...I don't have a TV let alone a cable connection, so none of that for me! Actually, I've been watching star sports quite a bit on TVU Player (it's a pretty neat program that streams a bunch of random -mostly chinese, a few american- TV channels on the internet) lately..so hopefully will be seeing some racing on there! Touge racing is cool..but it's not something you see on TV is it?? Any place else to watch it apart from youtube and random internet uploads?
  19. Well, I wouldn't say that all Americans like NASCAR...just the trashy ones (after all, it does stand for Non-Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks). Rallying is growing really popular here..it became one of the sports on the X-Games last year! And Drifting probably has it's biggest following in the US too. As for me personally..I just love F1. Haven't seen a race in ages though. Rallying is good too, but it's just not one of those things you can sit down and watch for hours because of the way the sport is organized. The most entertaining races are probably ones where you have laps and laps on end of challenging (by that I mean not a circular track) turns etc..so F1, touring car chamionships etc. Those huge truck races used to be fun too but I haven't seen one in quite a while..know what I mean? (not monster trucks..I mean the crazy modded out cargo trucks)!
  20. uhm..yeah, that's what they just said. or did you mean tC coupe as opposed to another variation of the tC? it only comes as a coupe. well they definitely wouldn't make a RWD version of this..or any other scion for that matter, as scion is marketed as toyota's "budget brand"....so it needs to be cheap to make, which most RWD cars aren't. toyota has been ridiculously boring for a good few years. seems like they're in the business of making money off their cars and jumping on this green wagon (which is fine with me), but they're lacking any real character or passion in their cars now.
  21. I suppose it does look quite a bit like the allion..but it has been around for AGES..at least 3-4 years now. when was the allion first released? and i quite like the way it looks..there's quite a few around with some nice clean aftermarket mods...and quite a few more that have just been riced to the max. but again, it is FF and although it is a "coupe" it isn't a performance machine by any standards.
  22. yup, I agree with Devinda. I saw those pictures a few months ago on thecarconnection.com's spy photos section..you can probably still track it down on there. It is indeed some sort of subaru impreza test car..at least that's what the site (which I find to be quite reliable) states. here are the articles I was referring to: http://www.thecarconnection.com/Enthusiast...178.A10850.html http://www.thecarconnection.com/Enthusiast...178.A10857.html
  23. Actually, there are probably a lot of very bored soldiers out there too. Have you guys seen the movie "Jarhead" with Jake Gyllenhall? Great movie based during the Kuwait war, but totally applies to the current situation too I'm sure. And I agree, the Americans probably aren't making making their reputation much better amongst the Iraqi public by drawing so much attention and driving like they're above everybody else. I understand their situation, but as an Iraqi citizen who gets rammed in the back by an Humvee in a traffic jam when you have no place you could possibly go, I probably wouldn't appreciate it much either!
  24. Hi Guys, Lately I've been having a bit of trouble with my 95 Civic. When I turn the key to start the engine, sometimes it doesn't do ANYTHING (and sometimes it just starts right up). The lights come on fine, and the check engine light goes off, but when I start the key I get dead silence. If I keep holding the key turned for a few seconds, it starts up eventually, or if I turn the key back, and try again, it starts up after a few tries (sometimes the very next try, sometimes after 3 or 4 tries). When it does, I don't get any trouble, it doesn't hesitate or anything and starts right up. Would you guys agree with me that my starter motor is starting to die? So I went to an auto parts store a little while ago to buy a starter motor with hopes of replacing it myself. But then the guy at the store said they need to know which brand my current motor is. Apparently they have about 6 different ones that they claim are slightly different, and have slightly different power levels, and that they aren't interchangeable. Is this true? I was looking around online earlier and noticed that there indeed were different ones, but just assumed that they're just different options I had. Isn't it pretty weird for an automobile manufacturer to use several different starter motors in the same model of car? Please advise me whether this is true, or if they were just trying to get me to get my car fixed at their shop! And finally, now my plan is to take off my current motor, and figure out which brand it is so I can buy the correct one and replace it myself. This shouldn't be a big repair, right? I've been looking at the repair manual, and it seems like a pretty simple job. It shouldn't be much trouble, right?? Any advice you guys can give me, especially you Honda experts, would be greatly appreciated. My car is a 95 Civic DX Coupe with a manual transmission by the way. Thanks, S
  25. great job, Duncan and the guys! I was browsing through the cars for sale out there...what's the exchange rate like compared to the USD or LKR? (I guess I could just look it up online). And what's the tax structure for cars like? Can't imagine it being worse than it is in Sri Lanka??
