The Carina was offered as a Taxi version till 1998, hence the reason why you see a few 65- Carina of that model around in Sri Lanka. (I have seen a few Blues and some whites).

On the Toyota and Freudenberg: when the Toyota started their operations in Sri Lanka they acquired all the staff from Freudenberg, they had used to work from Dematagoda place until the TL building was completed and the workshop was moved to new premises. My aftesales head had been there during that time and he related the story how strict the Japs were when moving stuff and working according to the plan. He talked about how he had to give a moving plan and how it was rejected after looking at the efficiency. Also shows how in depth knowledge the Japs had when they asked him to plan the after sales floor for reception again the bug guy had said wrong and had pointed out how the power lines and communication lines would be blocked if they went with the plan.

So many stories I think we should have a separate thread to talk about the history of the dealerships in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka they were Coronas. Not Carina. The Carina taxi version actually had a T140 Corona body with the Carina van front-end. It was quite popular around SEA.

Yes, the staff was taken over from F'berg to TL, but some senior managers were let go. There were issues of poor behavior, such as managers using customer vehicles for personal use. Some mechanics also left and started their own thing because they didn't like the new structure, as they were overlooked for specialist training, etc., despite their seniority.

Yes..Dematagoda was during the transition phase..the Marina crashed in Wattala and I believe they went with Toy#ta L#nka when they moved to Wattala (I can't remember if they called themselves TL at Dematagoda).

Wow! That I was not aware of.

That is nothing. The Crown Comfort was in production for 22 years ! The Comfort was based on the X80 Mark II/Chaser/Cresta platform, so the platform itself has been there since 1988 ! Yes ! the platform was 40 years old !

This one time it was the best selling car in Japan. Competition should have taken notes from the success.

Yes. But nobody did. Would you like to take the turn ?

Why not actually I found the ideal candidate for trivia today morning. They were drunk when they designed the rear of this car no way it attracted the local buyers.

oh c'mon...it does have some C(h)arisma to it. Triple diamondly C(h)arisma-tic. Probably the tri-racial bloodline...Japanese, Swedish and French....how can that NOT be the very definition of C(h)arisma ?

Only in the name, looked like a 90s Hyundai, lacked to much Carisma in this.... I thought this might confuse all. Over to you @iRage

Well...it was a confused car to begin with. Manufactured by Mitsubishi using a Volvo platform in a production plant in Norway or someplace specifically for the European market. The diesel variants used a Renault engine :)

Here you go...easy one...

Like the name suggests...it is like an optical illusion how this car has fallen down from grace :(

Sadly the fall is not a Mirage...but reality.

I've seen a grape/apple green one in SL...

I recently saw a red one which belongs to the owner of the Wheel Alignment place I went. Was not in good condition with bad paint jobs. Please take the turn

From an automaker who Marched steadily through the decades and stumbled since the dawn of the new millennium. Most of these models sell for around 10.  A very fun car to drive.

Also you have to beware of the ides of March as per the soothsayers to Julius Caesar.

It is pretty close...the B11 and the ADVan had a similar design. In Japan this front end was there in the low grade (mostly van variant) March K10s. Export models had this front end in quite a few trim levels (i.e. not just the low end or business varaints). Same with the B11 Sunny
