What a thread man, what an awesome thread........ So many memories flooding in :-)

d4e4o5g414t3y404z2d4t2q234q2r2h4v5f40423

This is the only Technic model I had and loved way back when........ however I had tons of regular lego sets that I'd combined to make various different models.

I've currently got a box full of Lego which is a combination of what me and my wife had, which my Son now Loves to build with... :)

He's added in the small sets that we've bought him as well......

In fact I think I still have the 80's spaceman and some of those sets somewhere at my parents house.....must go exploring soon..... he he

I don't mean to bum everyone out with socialism theories, but honestly right now in our countryt the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer and the middled class is trying very hard to not fall into the 'poor'. A photographer friend was saying that some of these high-society kids even celebrate birthdays at the taj and hilton and what not.. So "50,000 for a toy? Sure son, but that means no partying allowance for this week for you!" said a father to a son.

Golden words watchman, golden words indeed!

Wow nostalgia overload!...I had the Lego moon landing kit and a buttload of Meccano. They kept me entertained well in to my teens..then I moved on to prostitutes.

James may had a dedicated episode on Lego in his Toy Stories series. Same for Meccano. And Airfix too. ;)

Sadly its all been taken off youTube. But i'm sure there should be torrents on the internet.

But here's the next best thing:

This is what I had back in the day... managed to get the electric motor kit after saving for it myself :)

Yet got all the stuff except the motor kit wiring has peeled off and broken contacts.

Ad news guys, don was supposed to receive my shipments and bring it home, but the seller delayed and now he's home and my technics are over the ocean in transit to his place.

So I have to wait til he gets back and figure out another way to get them across. :'(

Found it, its the 8064 komi, I only manged to build the car. :(

outlog.jpg

this thread surely brings back the memories. (hell i even logged on to AL just to reply to this after years!)

i too had the same model (or something very similar) back in those days, by any chance you bought this from a shop in Kandy?

cos i remmeber buying it from Kandy and on the way home it self lost a small part inside the car, that taught me not to open up lego kits till i get home :D

anyway since thread discusses about price of toys n is it worth it etc. i was just wondering does these helps kids to be interested in mechanical/engineering/tech careers.

not to boast or anything, but im into higher studies in mechanical field (though not automobile, and i'm sure some people in AL are much better than my self when it comes to automobile side of stuff though they may not be in a career in mech field it self). what about you guys? or is it just kids who are interested in toys like lego are inherently inclined to tech stuff?

anyway thanks komi for the nostalgia!

Most welcome Buddhika. I'm in a completely non tech field and still I have my car love because of that technic. It was beyond awesome. I'm still quite upset that e courier didn't make it in time men. Haiyyo my first techic in 23 years!!

ah right, i'm sure its a worth investment by parents. (personally not sure 50k or so toys can be justifiable, but if the parents can manage with their money good for them, hopefully not public money though :S)

this was nicely shown on that james may's tv series on old toys i guess.

sad to hear about delay of yours, you're making my self crave for another go at technics :D

so, i've been rather busy! started building this like there's no tomorrow. here's the step be step. the level of details is insane! not bad for a 30 year old lego set.

and then on to the engine. its a V4 in this one. technic used the square blocks as pistons, as opposed to the piston shaped ones in 8880. still tho, this is so cool i wet my pants!

here are all the parts that went into it:

this is the crankshaft assembly, with pistons:

and here's the finished product. the movement is really smooth.

finally here it is mounted on the car:
