Anyone experienced with sound proofing their cars? I'm thinking of doing it but not sure if the stuff sold at Pet#o are any good. Pls give your thoughts of you have done this. Thanks

If your car is noisy, you should get its mechanicals checked. Paying for a soundproofing mat is like changing the pillow for a headache.

Not noisy, just looking to reduce road noise etc.

Sometimes you get excessive road noise when you use not so good tires....

@charith

I also thought OP was talking about soundproof mats. But just like irage said, if there's excessive road noise, faulty wheel bearings and cheap tyres could be the reason

Hi yes I was talking about the mats. By the looks of it this is a new Concept for most here :) will have to keep asking I guess or be the ginypig and try it out myself.

I have seen dynamat but way too expensive

For curiosity how much is Dynamat ? I always thought that although these are used for sound deadening in a car the original application was intended for audio installations.....I am pretty sure there was a previous thread on the matter if you do a search you will see that at that point in time non of us had actually used any of these products.

However most of the above posts were of a serious note....what makes you think your car is noisy ? Have you compared it against another IST ? Or measured sound levels (If you have a smart phone you can download an app to measure).

For a car of its class I always thought the IST was relatively quiet (but then I haven't ridden much in these things). If there is excessive noise there might be something wrong ? You said "road-noise" which as we mentioned earlier could also be due to bad/worn-out/cheap compound tires ? worn out bearings ? Broken/missing rubber grommet ? A beading that is loose ? So it might be prudent to give your car a good look-over as well ?

Do you still have the original floorboard carpeting that came with the car or did you do anything with it ?

Hi again,

Okay just to clarify my car isn't giving any excessive noise mechanically. I'm looking at this more from a additional mod to do on car to make it even more quieter than factory spec. I have seen this being done overseas with good results just that I'm not sure how good what Pet#o l... sells, hence the reason for this post.

Dynamat you can get on ebay but you're looking at over $200 and there are cheaper alternatives but as far as I know only Pet#o l... sells some kind of sound insulation sheets

According to my knowledge, These mats used to soundproof movable generators (higher capacity ones) which used for powering up larger buildings. Anyway this is a good attempt but bit of a concern here is because, interior equipments such as seats, dash board...etc may have to be removed to do it correctly. Cost will be higher. Have you got any quotation for doing this from places you mentioned locally ? Have they done it before to any other vehicles? If possible find out more details please.

I think these has to be done by an experienced professional because if one place is missed, its a waste of everything and there won't be any outcome at all. Thanks.

Please keep it updated if someone does this,

I'm also intrested because the kara-kara sound of the montero at highway speeds are killing me, it's irritating me like it's running on "papadam" not diesel.

If some one get it done please mention about the effectiveness and the average cost

Hey even I'm interested. The Teg is rather noisy on highways. It's a common Teg problem. And I went and made mine noisier. Hurrah.

Will ask around at Pet#o and report

Called p#tc# today and the baboon who answered the phone told that they don't do vehicle sound proofing,

Then I told him that it was on their web site,

then he said again in a bad tone that it wasn't done here.

I don't want to call there any more

But if it is done some where please let me know.

That's so strange. I visited the narahenpita branch today to take a look at the product on offer and they showed me as well. It looks like a tar based sheet. Couldn't get any name as packaging was all chinese. problem is you ask two people in the shop and they will give two different prices. Was in a rush so couldn't be arguing but I know they HV the stuff.

After seeing this product today now I'm thinking if the tar based roof adhesive sheets with that silver top cover found in hardware stores will do the same job

Use super from ceypetco,

Watched Rebecca's vedio before buying it,

the engine which comes to sri lanka (due to the poor quality of our fuel) is even noisier than the the UK spec Shogun reviewed here or the JDM Pajero but those are not compatible with even the super diesel availble here, as to my knowledge.

Please PM me the price they quated per sqare foot, or the average amount it will cost for a montero 2013 if possible.

And if you do the soundproofing please keep us updated.

The one you get here(for permit) is 2800CC?
