Crack On Front Windshield

B2Spirit

Question

Last Friday i got the gift of a cracked front windshield courtesy a flying projectile.

I still can't understand how it hit the particular spot as it is below the bonnet line and the wiper :(.

Anyway with the state of roads in SL it should not be a surprise i guess.

Started as a small line in the lower middle of the glass but it keeps growing slightly day by day.

Therefore I assume i can't hope it to last much longer in usable state.

I checked with TL on replacement and they said what they have here for the export model is slightly different from feature/option perspective to the JDM spec they got based on my chassis number.

When asked to clarify they did not know exactly but promised to check with parent company.

All i know is that mine came with cold weather option and therefore has a wiper de-frost feature which is useless anyway unless the earth suddenly decide to change its tilt significantly :).

Other than that i am clueless as to what other differences there could be.

What kind of features/Options can a windshield have?

Considering the wait time for them to get a JDM spec one and the obvious higher cost (which insurance might cry about) is there any downside in opting for the Export model part they have ?

Thanks.

Depends on the car. Some car windshields the frit has a distinctive shape so that it doesn't hinder sensors, etc, and some have conductive strips for various equipment. If your car just has only the winter pack wiper heater I cant think of any harm in putting a non winter pack windshield. Just make sure the wires are properly terminated and not left bare and dangling.

What is the car? Its possible you might find the exact same used in the usual places (if it was a JDM option)

It's a 2012 Camry Hybrid

After searching found the windscreen spec.

it says as follows

Model : AVV50
Part Number : 56101-33953
Spec: * EHL, T = 4.56, green, cold weather model & Audio-AVN 6 speaker BL · tETOOTH
(Original Text : *EHL,T=4.56,グリーン,寒冷地仕様&オーディオ)-AVN 6スピーカ BL・tETOOTH
What is meant by "-AVN 6 speaker BL · tETOOTH" ? :speechless-smiley-004:
Could this be referring to some kind of antennas on it ?

AVN = Audio Video Navigation? Probably the windshield got antennas for GPS and Radio/TV?

Think so. Can live without those as they don't work in SL anyway.

What i don't understand is what does the windshield has to do with bluetooth and speakers.

And there are 2 kind of glasses LAM & EHL.

LAM i guess is for Laminated.

But no clue what is meant by EHL.

EHL = Electrical Heated Laminated Glass,

but if you decide to replace the JDM head unit, those antennas may come handy, or probably not because of the frequency range deference. Does TV/AM/FM antennas defer from country to country?

Also does the camry has auto wipers? how does automatic rain sensors work? does the windshield has some kind of a sensor?

Nope the JDM Camry doesn't have rain sensing wipers.

Bit odd as the export models have it and normally JDMs have either all or more features than export models.

Maybe it's more to do with Safety Regulations (E.g. Export Camry comes with Headlight washers while the JDM doesn't. Both has the identical headlight unit)

Looks like it's using an optical sensor.

Sometimes its safety, but sometimes its market preferences.

Hello All,

I drive a Suzuki Liana and the rubber beading on the weather strip at the bottom of all four windows are in a bad shape (it allows water to leak in). I tried replacing the rubber beading which sits close to the window glass but the guy who did the job made a mess of it (he applied too much quick fix and the outer plastic strip sort of melted & looks awful now).

Now the only option is to replace it and will have to get genuine ones (I searched for it at panchi but cannot get the Liana weather strip, there are few which are sort of compatable and the length is an issue and it does not look great if you cut them at the ends cannot be sealed).

A*W says it will cost close to 16,500 LKR.

Anyone knows if I can get recon / used ones cheaper as 16,500 is a lot of money for weather strips.

Thanks
