Yes....it is a conversion commonly done in Japan. You sell the normal Prius Hybrid and buy a PHEV Prius.

lol

I remember seeing something about an Australian company that in fact build PHEV kits for the Prius. Not sure if they are still operational, but the thing I remember mostly was that the ranges they give were not that great.

The Prius PHEV has a 11kwh Lithium battery pack, the regular Prius does not. Any PHEV conversion without replacing the battery back (and associated ancillaries) will be half baked. A regular Prius (and in fact any non PHEV Toyota Hybrid) can only manage about a kilometer or so under full electric power, so what use is the PHEV conversion any way? The battery is fully charged if you drive for a kms at over 60km/h.

Okay...so serious response....I saw PHEV conversions in japan way back in the day of the 1st and 2nd gen Priuses..this was a time where PHEV variants were not there. Haven't seen it recently....probably either they were not very successful and/or why bother when you can by a PHEV variant anyway ?

Also, don't forget that in SL 90% of the so called specialists in vehicle electronics, etc..can barely fix a stereo without mucking up the electrical system of a car and potentially creating a fire hazard.
