MG ZS 2018 DCT issues and Petrol types

Question

Posted

Hi All,

I am planning to buy a MG ZS 2018.  Thus, would like to know about following from any existing MG ZS owners or experts here:

1)      Does anyone know what kind of clutch the MG ZS have? Wet Clutch or Dry Clutch?

2)      Has anyone experienced issues with DCT gearbox in MG vehicles here in SL? If so, is it common like in Vezel/grace?

3)      Is it compulsory to use 95 Octane petrol in MG ZS or is it ok continue with 92 Octane (especially in long run) ?

Just don't buy an MG if you want to have a peaceful and exciting motoring experience.

1-2. As I remember MG ZS has 6 speed conventional auto transmission and it does not have a dual clutch transmission

3. Yes, you need to pump 95 octane since it is a turbo charged GDI engine

MG Zs doesn't have a dual clutch transmission in the first place. How can it have DCT problems????

MG gives 7 years warranty here in UK for the ZS. It's a reliable vehicle for a Chinese. There are no known reliability problems so far. However the interior looks cheap and the build quality is poor compared to its competitors like the Kia Stonic.

The 1500cc version (not relevant to Sri Lanka) seems to lack pulling power. They recommend the 1000cc one in UK over the 1500.

The biggest problem in Sri Lanka is the agent. Micro shouldn't even be servicing three wheelers.

Thanks for your input guys.Just another questions out of curiosity. Are all 1.0 turbo charged engines that we see in the market these days generally require 95 octane petrol ?  For example what about Suzuki Vitara SZ-T with 1.0 boosterjet engine?

Just because it is Turbo it does not require 95

Swift RS 1.0T, Toyota 1.2T (CHR/ Corolla Sport) run very happily on 92. So does most of JDM Turbos

Issue is with UK imports which are originally designed for 95 commonly available petrol in UK / Europe whether Turbo or Naturally Aspirated.

Better refer the owners' manual to find out which octane number should be used for the vehicle.  Being a turbo petrol necessarily  does not mean only 95 octane should be used.

It is clearly mentioned in the service manual and depending on the vehicle it would be displayed inside the fuel tank cap as well. But not all 1000cc would need 95. Most Euros would. Mine (Euro) clearly says 95.

Exactly same car with same engine coming from different markets for instance Suzuki K10 Turbo (Japan/UK/India) will have different state of tune due to emission requirement etc.. so can have different fuel requirements.

Is there an issue of using 95 ?  True it's a tad bot expensive but after all you are forking out Apx 4.9 Mil  for a MG or anything in the similar lines right ?

Do you know that our 95/92 etc perhaps does not actually have the said values .

When it is 17.5% more it matters if you do 40-50K km annually

Does pump 95 on my Euro SUV. for daily Jap/ Koreans it has always been 92 with no issues.
