As the title suggests, my cousin is trying to get a GT car from Toyota.

The contenders are

Marino/Ceres GT (4age engined atleast)

Carina GT

Starlet GT (looks based plus hot hatch)

Sera (are they even available anymore? Wait so one on the vehicle sevana for 7.8m) no thanks

Any other suggestions guys?

Marino/Ceres GT

That would be the G Type...depending on the year they will come with either a silver top or a black top (where the black top is concerned between 1995/96 to early 1997 it had the 5MT after 1997 had the 6MT).

Not really a GT car. Just a coupe based on the Starlet/Tercel platform. Not fast..not the best handling...but looks funky.

As with most of these cars finding a good one is easier said and done. I would stay away from conversions. Most conversions are a mad-hatter's palaa malla. So if things go wrong fixing it is a pain. Also..a lot of dodgy work also maybe involved. So go for a stock version. The Starlet and Carina would be the most common.

You also get the Corolla/Sprinter GT (AE111).

Sadly for Toyota GT cars that will be your list in SL..there used to be a few Caldinas as well but no idea what happened to those.

You also get :

Vitz RS <get the actual RS with the rear brake disks, not the trim level of the later models which was just a standard Vitz with a body kit and had rear drum brakes)

Vitz Turbo RS

There is a Vitz GR Sport (Hybrid)..not sure if it is for sale. Yes it is a Hybrid Vitz but it actually rides and handles quite well.

I would suggest Mark IIs, Chasers and Crestas but those are ridiculously pricey now.

Does it have to be a Toyota ? If not there are a few VZR Sunny and Pulsar sedans and Lucino hatchbacks.

What exactly is the expectation out of this GT car ? There is also the option of buying like a 240 series Allion and then doing some mods to improve the handling and throttle response. Even the humble old Axio....you can get one and do the TRD coversion on it.

There's Axio 141 GT which has a 1NZ-FE Turboed engine. not sure how many ended up in SL.

Just that with the full kit...there is another one with just the body kit and suspension..quite a few normal 141 Axios with just the body kit.

I doubt the legit one and half legit one is for sale. Which is why I suggested that they could get a 141 Axio and do the build themselves.

Carina GT will be easiest to source ... a few neat specimens were around in the car groups.

Starlet GT - most of em are converts, that too not properly done.

Vitz RS

There was a 2001 XP13 up for sale recently , the owner was asking close to 5M for that which to me seemed ridiculous.

Yeppers, Geely Emgrand EC7 gets quite fairly priced for what it is because nobody wants it

But I'd pick a manual one if I were in the market tbh. Way better VFM than a 90s Jap abused to hell and back by local baiyas

That's kind of true for all the Geely's - the MX7's and to a lesser extent the Pandas.

Ehhh but the Emgrand is as comfy as a Premio, pulls hard and its clutch is well balanced unlike those two

There's also a CVT but Sri Lankans and CVTs don't mix well

Aren't these (engine + transmission) straight out from Mitsubishi?

Well done ! You might have signle handedly just artificially inflated Emgrand prices. Pretty soon we will be seeing Emgrands with gold badges getting sold for 5x the current price

Nope, Toyota. The engine code is Mitsubishi though 😂 The 1.8L engine used in the Emgrand EC7 (G-Power JL-4G18) is a licensed clone of the Toyota 1ZZ-FE engine

Since other suggestions are there, any chance to hunt a Hyundai Coupe or Mitzi FTO

I don't know about the SL market but they are usually cheap around where I live and no many faults

BTW I can see one of the Yellow Hyundai on another sale site below 5 Mil for sale

This thread has gone full send and I missed it.lol

So my cousin is closing into 25. The parents want to get him a car.
He wants it to be a “GT” at the same time he wants it to be pretty reliable (he is the one maintaining my pug while Im away.so he got enough time with an unreliable Frenchie)

1.Open to non Toyota.

2.Budget around 4-5 mil.

3. Something “cool”

4. Something a tiktok nangi likes. lol

5. No converts for some reason.

The 1st thing that came to my mind was Carina GT and then Toyota Cynos

Most have been boy racerfied....Cynos...I mean c'mon why do you hate this poor kid ? Think of his embarrassment when a DX wagon gaps him :D
I suppose something like a Peugeot from the 90s will not be his cup of tea ?

No GT in its name but what about one of those nice P11's that came with the neo VVL engines? The stickers and the Hyper CVT badge can make people run mad. Plus it's a nice car to have.

If not the boring old P12 GT with a manual gearbox

Curious about what happened to the FTOs though,

As far as I know the only 4-5 cars that are here were awarded to those 90s Athletes.

Few intermittently show up in poor condition, as far as I know there is one silver car in good nick
