Mazda 323 Hatchbacks...

I like Mazda hatches as well. They look a lot better than the sedans perhaps excluding the current 3. I had a black 2001 Familia with an original body kit before I bought the Alfa 156 and it was a decent car.

Being a non VVTi engine performance was adequate rather than great and the ride was probably the best in that class when compared with other Japanese cars. It handles well too with the indipendent rear sus.

I gave it out on rent as soon as I got the Alfa, but it will be coming back in Jan. Might keep it for my father and sell the 1.6 156 as he prefers an auto.

So nice to see some hatchback fans!!

Well here are some specs of my car..

It's Got 4 disks, 4 airbags, Manual, 1.5L VVT engine (130 horsepower as the spec says) Factory fitted Strut bar, sporty black interior and all these add up some pretty happy driving! My dad recently bought it a touch screen DVD player to compliment the interior.

Tell me if this is the same model as you owned Velocity... It's got the "new face" as we all call it ya.

I'm a BIG fan of Astinas as well...They are manufactured from 89 to 94 as I understand..? very stylish cars still....and comes with some sporty interior options as well...I would always prefer that to a starlet..

NICE ride Charith19!!

BTW, has anyone installed cone air filter to their rides? I was thinking of saving up and getting one. The cold air intakes cost a bunch at round 35K ya! Was thinking of just the ram+decent make cone air filter...anyone with experience as to whether or not that's good for the engine? As in do these come with air flow sensors?

I'll upload some pics of it...managed to put one on..check it out...

Cheers everyone!

yes i have a k&N installed.. i have an air flowmeter as opposed to a air flow sensor.. it was quite the straight bolt on job, because k&n has the whole kit...

but u will only feel a difffernce after around 3000RPM becuase.. i dont think it adds much to the bottom of ur power curve... but i like it so far.. cleanning is a bit of complicated job as u need to buy the cleanning liquid and the oil straight from k&N agents.. and u cant let water get into it when u are servicing ur car... :violent-smiley-099:

what else.. for me the differnce was even higher after i installed a HKS backbox... :jumping-smiley-013:

Finally no more assignments. :jumping-smiley-013:

I preffer hatches specialy in our roads. Gr8 for sneaking in. Nice car N@visport. Supprice to c so many Hatch fans in AL.

323 Timeline http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_323

About B Engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_B_engine

In Sri Lanka we have B3, B5, B5 DOHC(rare since made only JDM)

About Z Engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Z_engine

No offence :angry-smiley-048:

Even I preffer Astina over Familia for its looks. Main draw back of Astina is the lag in intake that is not in the later Familia model.

Regarding the cone air filter mod, I have done it in the past just for testing bcus there was a big hype that cone filter will turn your car in 2 a F1. Didn't feel much of a diff and gets dirty very easily due to ammount of dust in our roads. Now I use the stock box where I change the Filter every 4 months and its only rs.800.

RAMing As u said could get water inside not only while servicing but in heavy rain. U can decrease it by installing the piping lower than the filter. Better to avoide that unless u can select stock when raining/dusty condition and RAM on a clear weather just by a flick of a switch. (Which I'm currently workin on)

About the 323 GT-R

Yes 323 with rotary swap

As Bugs sugested lets meetup or have a track day or sumthin till we sort out the MFOC Fun Rally.

the lag is becuase i the 1990 astina;s have a air flow meter as opposed to a air flow sensor.. the 1992 astina has a air flow sensor.. and by far thats the best.. and yes i am blessed with the rare B5 DOHC engine.. so it makes up for the lag.. just like in the 323 versus crx example.. love the way it caught up to it.. :action-smiley-060:

Chaminda,

I checked out the engines on the US variant.. it is much different to the ones we have.. including the air intake and distributor.

Ohhhhhh

In the pics they look the same as ours –but I suppose the Mazda’ s in the US are made for that region.

Got any luck with the white dials ?
