The Most Reliable Jap Vehicle

JAFF

Recommended Posts

i hope this would be an interesting topic to be discussed in this forum. :)

My question is, among Japanese automobile industry, who manufactures the most reliable vehicle?

Japanese Toyota - best reliable cars came in 1980 to 1995

Not to forget Honda? I can remember reading the result of some research that revealed the Accord as the most reliable as a specific model.. Then again, I believe its difficult to generalise as a car maker since it depends on different models as well.. Even niche manufactures like Subaru are known to run well for years.. This is especially good considering the fact that they produce a considerable proportion of performance vehicles..

All in all, Japanese obsession with quality and continuous quality improvement is always reflected well in their car industry..

Found these information in Warranty Direct. (http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/top10.ht...128339010848601)

According to them the top 10 most reliable car manufacturers in UK are as follows.

1. SUZUKI

2. HONDA

3. MAZDA

4. TOYOTA

5. SKODA

6. SMART

7. CITROEN

8. HYUNDAI

9. NISSAN

10. FORD

6 out of the top 10 are japanese. They have considered only two car models from Suzuki. Therefore it might not be justifiable to consider them as number one. Seems like Honda tops the list followed by Mazda and Toyota in UK.

me too lost trust in this by seeing Citroen and Ford somewhere in the list. Citroen got and presented good innovative stuff but when it comes to reliability PSA and Ford should rank vee low.

Let me get this straight, so SKODA, CITROEN and HYUNDAI are more reliable than Mercedes Benz?

A recent study run by independent automotive warranty specialist, Warranty Direct, looked at more than 450,000 vehicles, across 33 manufacturers, from the UK and the USA for reported mechanical failures. It found Mazda to be the most reliable car brand with almost 92% of its cars aged between 3 and 9 years to have suffered no mechanical failures of any type. The Japanese carmaker achieved a failure rate of just 8.04% to come out on top of a field where only two non-Asian based manufacturers made it into the top ten.

Below is a list of the top ten companies that had the lowest number of mechanical failures reported by policy holders for every 100 vehicles aged between three and nine years old. Interestingly, Kia proved more reliable than all the German brands and even financially stricken Mitsubishi reached a very respectable fourth.

This makes more sense but still Merc got lower ranks .. something to do with sampling error or in reality mercs aint reliable ?

I think after Chrysler took over, Mercs have been going down hill. My. ex-FIL has a 2001 S320. That damn thing is at DIMOS most of the time. From some really trivial stuff like the COMMAND not working to the damn thing not starting in the morning. It was brand new.

Once the gear shift froze in place. Car wouldn't start. DIMOS came and changed a micro switch under the shift... don't even ask how much they charged.. :)

Since of late the Auto Door closers wont work, unless you lock the doors yourself, normally, you hear a hiss of leaking vacuum air... :)

Ha ha ha ha! Hilarious.

Saw one for sale recently for Rs. 3.3 million! The Law Asia model and before are supposed to be the golden Era of S Class mercs. All that are coming now are just micro chips wrapped in leather and wood trim.

I would die to get my hands on Sumal Perera's S600 V12 Coupe! Imagine a car that big with only 2 doors!!!

In my humble opinion, i think the W140 S class still turn more heads than its younger brothers! its got such presence!

Yep... that's what they call the Law Asia model. The S600 V12 Coupe I am talking about is the the same chassis. Imagine!

About the W220

The W220 S-Class also became known for a shift in reliability ratings from the S-Class' previously high-ranked position. Consumer Reports classified the W220 model's reliability as "poor," its lowest rating, and declared it one of the "least reliable luxury cars." Build quality, however, was generally considered to be good. For instance, Forbes described the W220 S500 as "built remarkably well." [4] Early W220s were recalled for issues with the trunk spring and the hydraulic fuel line; there were no recalls for the 2005 or 2006 model years. Issues with the W220 electronics systems, Airmatic suspension and other features are considerations in used models.

I have a feeling that this issue is blown out of proportion by the US consumer. Why is that only cars sold in the US are suffering? Maybe its US workmanship?

Anything and everything non us is not given even the slightest of room for error. GM, Dodge recalls were just bottom line news!

These replies prompt me to post a question to resident euro car experts. Built quality of euro cars are in a league of its own but how does their reliability fair against jap cars? Do these cars require lot of TLC for trouble free motoring?

Below is a very interesting thread I came across on BMW's similar threads can be found in www.benzworld.org
