It's not the only one in the world, I know of a few hippies who trundle around in them in the US to this day. You see a few of them on occasion. But the ones they have are very very beat up, and I had no idea this was ever made in RHD. Seems worth the asking price to me, evidently very lovingly restored.

he has done a neat job !!! thats what u call restore.

regarding the price, have a look at these - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/cat.php?id=5

OK Restoration is fine but if I am not mistaken this model had 6 Volts system now I find 12 Volts Alternator on that new engine.

If it is so not restored to original specifications.

In 1970 middle Original 12 volts VW Vans and cars came with a 12 Volt Dynamo.

Friend of mine restored a 2 Sri VW Parts from Brazil cost him more than 2M Rs with original 6 Volts system.

Srilanka at that time agent for VW did not have any spares for that model.

I don't know wheter this violates the terms, if so Mods. plz remove this, but guys this guy is asking around 10% if that praice

Thats because the model in your link is the T2 transporter, which is much less desireable worldwide than the split window T1 version. Also, its been diesel converted.

He's asking for much less because its a 2nd generation Combi with a lot more modern parts and design- far less a classic.

The Type 1 VW vans are far rarer - check the prices in UK, US (especially for the rarer split window, 23 window van) for a mint restored vehicle.

Taking the description on the ad, it seems a very meticulous and painful restoration, and will be of value to someone who wants such a vehicle.

To put things in perspective, I'll try and find the article but a classic Beetle sold at an UK auction last year for something like GBP 50,000 (admittedly, a first generation delivery mileage split window sedan)- thats over LKR 8 million...it certainly wasn't the only one in the world- but it had qualities that justified its auction price.

I'll echo Peri's statement on commenting of AL ads.

hats off to the owner...anybody can restore a car,but to go that extra mile and make everything 100% perfect takes a lot of dedication and patience...not to mention the cost.

And it's converted to diesel!
