'Kas123',

Go ahead and buy a Korean car if you see the number of Korean cars in Srilanka very few of them are in garages without spares. There is nothing wrong on them. Ssangyong is a Korean make there are lot of them are sold in Srianka.

Most of the Srilankans do not want Indian and Korean vehicles they condemn them as crappie vehicles. I use an new Indian Maruti omni vehicle that is worth for that cost which I paid 1.65M before the duty increase.

This same mentality was with the automobile users in early days before the free era in 1977. We used only UK, USA, and European vehicles.

Then with free Economy the Japanese vehicles started coming in with very low cost. At that time Japanese vehicles were reconditioned with new tires, battery, repainted.

My advice select a good Korean car within your money what you have and buy.

Good luck.

Hi Kas123,

So far I have used only few Japan vehicle and an Indian Swift. But Some of my colleges use hundai and Kia.While I purchased a Japan recon. Toyota , they have purchased Kia Forte and Hundai Elantra (Before tax increase) brand new. These vehicle have a much modern look with unmatching interior look with a Japanese. Now it is almost a year so far no trouble and they are satisfied as well. in addition to that with a 2 year warranty.

But this is about the B/new Vehicles but some say that Korean vehicles do not last long. One such experience that the master pump of Hundai gets corroded while a Japanese one last long. - ( Form Experience in a Garage )

But this is not a judgment.

But My opinion is you are not buying a vehicle so that your grandson also can use. Therefore I think better to look for the initial value, Warranty, after sale services , the facilities and the options you can have when you compare JDM vehicle with a Korean vehical of the same year and same budget . Plus Look for the fuel consumption as well.

I don't think the OP can afford a brand new car with a budget of 1.5 million.

OP search the forum with particular korean car models and you'll find a lot of information. You can't generalise all korean cars into one category.

Owned a sonata since 2004. Abso-freaking-lutely love it! Über-comfy tug boat of a car. The

Comfiest I've been in. Ever. Decent grunt. Bad handling. No major repairs yet. But then again we maintain them well. Consumption 4-5kmpl city, 9kmpl outstation. Around 15 on the expressway!!

Has a face only a mother could love, and an a$$ that can make grown men cry. Interior is plush. The seats will lull you to sleep. No airbags tho.

Bought for 1.85 the day before the 350% tax hike. Now can be sold at 1.5. So not a bad drop after all.

For a moment, I thought I was reading something that was put down by Jeremy Clarkson. :D
