For once in Autolanka:

1. Intelligent, worthwhile questions were asked about a car

2. In response op was given an anally comprehensive report on his queries

3. He listened to ppl who honestly had some knowledge through experience, without being a typical sensitive little biatch

4. Bought the car.

Congrats Carson. We wish more newbies here were men like you!

Hi, thanx for all the nice things said about this topic, but rest assured, I will continue to have more questions.

1.(non-mechanical) About RMV transfers of cars - In the recent past I have done a few vehicle transfers through an agent who takes the relevant documents and get done 'one-day transfers' - with an additional 4500/= charged as you know what. Since we have to spend a whole day for this and as I'm not from Colombo and as it's very difficult for me to find a day off for this and also because the RMV has a very very hostile environment, I did mot mind the extra 4500Rs.

This time I got an affidavit from the seller as it was needed for the one day transfer, but the same agent guy is asking for 8000/= extra, and I paused.

I also have a deletion letter from a leasing comp. issued just one day prior to the day I bought it. VIC is original. Does a tranfer by regular process take so much time and isn't there a quicker way for me to get the transfer with out comming to Colombo.

2.I think the car has done about 1,60,000Km. Do I need to replace the petrol filter as a must (or is it possible to assess its necssisity) at the tune up.

If so, are there VIC or similar non genuine filters available.

If not where can I get a good filter at the out marcket?

3. Could anybody give me the cost in detail for a tune up done at Unimo. (if doing it at Unimo has a sigificant impact)

Thanx. You will be happy to hear that my CS3 climbs considerable elevations at third gear, which I thought was a good thing as the tune up is yet to be done.

Congrats on your purchase. As for the your questions, I just add my 2 cents below.

1. You can enjoy reading http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/14585-vehicle-transferring-and-registration-procedure/?hl=transfers but remember these rules keep on changing. Well, RMV is not a hostile place IMHO. All you need is right documents with you. Arrive early and you can get it done within one day without much hassle. On the other hand unless you have a specific reason you can go through the normal channel and wait for about two months.

2. If the vehicle has done 160,000km on the original filter you are already on borrowed time and it may be worthwhile to go for an replacement considering the history of dubious fuel imports in the recent years. Anyway I'm sure you will understand what I an talking about once you take it out at the tune up.

I would strongly recommend coming over to colombo just for one day. u don't even have to come very early. If you can get to RMV with completed documents before 11AM, rest assured u will complete the transfer and get the new document to hand by 3PM. Dress nicely and wear a tie if u can. U can get a lot of things done in government offices pretty fast merely by wearing an office outfit.

One RMV person told me that the new owner has to take the full set of transfer papers (MTA6-A.A1,B,B1 and MTA8-C,C1) for the one day transfer; But the guidlines say that the current owner should retain the MTA6-A,A1, arn,t the B and C copies enough for the one day transfer?

One more querry,

The petrol filter; do I have to get a gunuine one, if so the prive and if its available in the out marcket.

Is it absolutely necessory for the tune up to be done at UniMo and if so what will the total cost be like, at present?

Hi guys, I have some queries with a new topic.

1.I feel that when doing routine replacements on any car, there are some parts which are Ok to be substituted with nongenuine parts but there are those key spares which should always be replaced with genuine parts. Which ones are they.

2.Is there any place/person who has genuine Mitsubishi parts for out market prices - in Colombo/Kandy

3.Are there nongenuine petrol filters for 2007 CS3s ?

Kindly respond.

1st of all Congratulations on your purchase. Do not worry about the mileage. Mitsubishi engines are not 150,000km engines.

Petrol filter is 29,000 at U...Motors. I checked it about a week ago for my friend

The tune-up should cost you about 20K-22K. Just put aside about 55-60K to be on the safe side (for both Tune-up and fuel filter). If I were you, I would do the tune-up, filter replacement and the service with all the filters changed (if required) with U... Motors so that you can start afresh without having much doubts in your mind.

The servicing in U... Motors is not expensive as compared to most other Agents of popular brand, It only cost me RS 7000 odd for my Lancer Ex to be serviced (without air filter and fuel filter being replaced). I personally used genuine filters for my car. You can run about 20,000 km with the genuine air filter and the genuine oli filter is changed every other service at U... Motors (ie 10,000km).

I did a one-day transfer in October. This is what you need (for the CS3)

Original CR

Valid revenue license. If it is expired, you need to get a new one before going for the transfer.

Photocopy of the revenue license

TWO pages of the signed MTA6 (DOESN'T MATTER if it is A,B, A-1 or B-1). You need ANY TWO pages.

MTA 8 Form Signed by the buyer

Two photos of the buyer, signed by a lawyer/any JP/gramasevaka

Photocopy of the NIC of the buyer

Photocopy of the NIC of the seller, signed by a lawyer/JP of the area/gramasevaka of the area

No objection letter by the seller, countersigned by a lawyer/JP of the area/gramasevaka of the area

If there has been a one-day transfer less than 6 months ago, an affidavit signed by the seller (prepared by a lawyer) will be required with a bit of palm grease

Like all Japanese brands there are plenty of OEM products out there for Mitsubishi's which can be used. Whether you use genuine or not depends on the function.

For example for air/ oil filters I would argue that VIC filters are perfectly adequate as in Sri Lanka it is advised that your change oil more regularly than manufacturer advised intervals. The same with fuel filters.

For spark plugs NGK is the one to go for and even Mitsubishi branded plugs are NGK

Things get a bit funny when it comes to things like Engine mounts, because here the after market products are not the same quality but the genuine items cost nearly 10 times as such, so people just accept the inferior quality and just change them more regularly (not out of choice, they just brake quicker).

Brake pads etc are another interesting one, where its not become harder to get good OEM parts in SL (due to imitation products) so buy from a known supplier or buy genuine

Shock absorbers, just by directly from the KYB agents who will even give you a cash discount as they are OEM equipment on Mitsubishi and there is no need to buy Mitsubishi branded products

Suspension bushes etc, now that is a bit of a killer. You can't buy genuine bushes for replacement, as you have to buy the entire suspension arms, and in Mitsubishi's this can be quite an expensive affair as they have a lot of bushes and arms thanks to the sophisticated rear suspension. Taiwani or Thailand bushes can be used on the cheap and will last a little while before needing replacement again. I think you can buy the bushes and arms from brands like 555 as well which are slightly better and they will last a lot longer than just replacement bushes. But neither would be the same as original, but it depends how deep a pockets you have and how long you plan to keep the car and how many miles it does a year.

You can get used suspension arms in spare parts yards so that is another option to consider, particularly if the arms are bent.

But when it comes to say timing belts, adjuster razor etc always use genuine

Machan, I think I've given you the wrong picture.

I meant the wooden board which stays over the spare wheel area on which you have the velvet covering.

The metal parts are quite OK.

You can get an upholsterer to re cut one for you. It's a delicate job but I've seen more complicated ones done.

machan i believe he is talking about the hard board cover that places over the spare wheel well.. Am i right carson?

It would be highly unlikely for a 2007 made car to have corrosions inside of the car..

Anyway if you are talking about the hard board lid, there should be places to buy those things rite.. Sorry for not being able to pin point you to an exact place though..

I almost broke mine in to two by placing spare wheel on it while the wheel well is empty..

About the door beadings, there's a guy called Mitsu Mahinda he is a specialist on Mitsu spare parts. you could contact him and check the availability of such.. I dont have his number at the moment but it was shared in the forum before.. Will update you tomorrow..

Small suggestion, if you could share pics of your car and the pics of problematic bits and pieces it would be very helpful to provide a proper feed back..

Yes machan that's exactly what I meant - the piece of hard board, is damaged (probably by some dude or most probably his lady placing a heavy weight on it) :speechless-smiley-023::girl_werewolf:

Hope Mitsu Mahinda has a solution for the board, antenna and the shutter beading (the ones found just out side the front shutters).

And about the pics,,, try to beleave me when I say that the day following the buy, I drove her a few rounds and dumped her off at the yard I mentioned earlier and asked them to repair/replace any prob parts. They called me today but didn't have time to get her. That's the reason for the lack of pics.

I'm going there tomorrow and will give you guys an update. Hope all's well.
