Good electrical mechanic in Gampaha:

Indika - Kirindivita (Just 150 m from the Kirindivita cemetry, when you drive from Gampaha (Gampa - Jaela road)

Anyway, does anybody know a good mechanic for mechanical troubleshooting of vehicles in Gampaha? I have a mitsubishi Cedia 1.3L and it drives fine, But when you take a 90 degree corner to the right there is a creeking noise just above the front left tire. when you drive straight or take slight turns there is no problem. When you look between the front left tire and the body above there is a gap, yet you see some scrataches mark just above the tire. Showed to several mechanics, with no result.

Read this thread a couple of times but couldn't actually make a post here. So here goes...

I used to live in Seeduwa from my childhood up until 2011. So used to go to the workshops with my dad when I was little and he always took his cars to this one place called "Roadstar Motor Works" in Seeduwa (directions from Seeduwa). After I could drive, I took the car to this place too. In fact, this is the place I restored my 1979 Lancer at. The owner is Mr. Ajith Hemachandra, a retired MINI Race Driver who is passionate about everything on wheels among a lot of other gadgets. He is the creator of the V-TEC powered MINI that we have a thread (here) about.

Based on over 10 years of working with him, I think he is a very knowledgeable person and is good at what he does. He specializes in all types of mechanical repairs ranging from tune ups to diagnostic scans up until full engine overhauls. I always insisted that he paid personal attention on my vehicles because most of his staff are not as perfect as he is at what they do, so his personal intervention is essential to make sure that things go right. His charges are also easy. Even after moving to Athurugiriya later, I still didn't hesitate to make the trip all the way to Seeduwa to get my repairs done.

I think Lal Alawatta's work is also good, but I guess most of you know about his attitude problem and will not consider him as an option. After a couple of visits to his place (all good - repairs are solid), I ended up not going there mainly because he doesn't know how to talk to his customers. My dad doesn't seem to have a problem with him though, maybe he respects people who are older than him and treats others like sh!t; especially if he gets to know that you know a thing or two about cars.

Dude! It's in Akarawita, not Kirindiwita :)

As for your issue, Your tyre size could be different from the manufacturer specifications. Check that out first. If that fails get your car to a place where a hoist is available and ask them to lift the car and check while the wheels are spinning. Did you try with Glitz park ? If it fails try Jayasinghe Auto in Naiwala (http://www.jayasingheauto.lk/), bit expensive though.

Hi guys,

I have kept an eye on this article because I need to fix A/C(not cold enough) of my Mazda BJ5P. I would like to do a full repair on the A/C system so I like to find a place that do good clean job with proper equipment. So anyone know such a place around Nugegoda, Maharagama area?

BTW I saw couple of places in this tread(aps - panadura etc).

Try Atco @ Nugegoda.

It's located in Stanley Tillekeratne Mawatha (jubilee post road).

Is it not cooling enough or not blowing enough air?

After running the car for a while on full A/C, open the bonnet and check for condensation (water droplets) on the A/C tubes (A/C tubes are made of aluminium. You can't miss them). If there is condensation, then the cooling system is fine. You need to sort out the blower (probably a blocked pollen filter).

If there is no condensation and if the aluminum tubes have got heated up a bit, then you have a cooling problem.

That's the simplest visual inspection you can do for an A/C.

Guys, I want to keep this a thread for FEEDBACK not a thread for REQESTS for help or Questions.

Else finding details of a workshop will become impossible as it wil get burried.

So please refer to my instructions on the first post.

I WILL move or remove any posts that do not conform.

I hope everybody understands. The idea here is somebody can get access to a list quickly so they can pick a workshop to help them.

I repaired my A/D from ACTO A/C Repairs Nugegoda and I think I could recommend that place to anyone else too.

Map - https://www.google.lk/maps/@6.8746881,79.8979251,281m/data=!3m1!1e3

Job : Unfortunately one of previous owners of may Mazda BJ5P has replaced it's condenser with a bad non Mazda one. It has been leaking( I guess the previous owner has top up the refrigerant when he was selling the car bcz I found A/C as good at that time). It had a bad cooling fan had to replace it. They Cleaned(did it very well) all parts. Changed compressor oil. Replaced all rubber seals. vacuumed the system. System filled with refrigerant. Checked and verified the performance.

Cost : 20000

I haven't done a A/C repair before so I'm can't comment on the price( Feel like bit hight but I wouldn't mind since I got job done well.

Hi, can anyone recommend me a good mobile repair service in and around colombo?....I have a Toyota Vitz and its not running(engine stalls) which i believe is because of the rats which had bitten the injector wire but need a mechanic to come and check.

As I said above, this is not a request thread. If you read this thread you will find contact details of a lot of mechanics and workshops used by members and they recommend. If you still cannot find a place, post on the request a mechanic workshop thread.

Better to come Chandana Auto Engineering at Dewalapola(Naiwala to Minuwangoda) Road, Previously Chandana worked at Jayasinghe Auto, Now he start his own garage, Jayasinghe auto is too much expensive place, But chandana is very reasonable

Previous post i mention his number

@Nimz77 I havent been to Platinum Auto Spa yet, but I personally know one of the guys who runs it. A petrol head and has a good knowledge of vehicles and takes pride in his work. Can't comment on the pricing but I'm sure he maintains his quality.

Another place you could try is this garage at the top of Hill Street Dehiwala. When going up from Galle road you will find it on the right near the split in the road. They specialize in quick paint jobs, cant remember the name though. Took a Nissan Bluebird CVT there and they did a decent job and matched the paint very well.

For clean fast work there is a garage hidden in colombo 12 on Maithri Bodhiraja Mawatha right off armor street behind St.Anthonys hardware. The garage is called Iron Horse Motors. They diagnose your car and you simply bring the part from Panchikawatta. They do running repairs, Accident repairs, insurance claims and all paint jobs. Its open from 6AM to 9PM 7 days a week.

Hi,

For Colombo the people near kalubowila, I have a good baas who has a very good knowledge. In front of Kalubowila hospital there is a road called Peris road. Roughly after 700m you can go to his garage. His name is Sarath. I have many vehicles like, Alto, Viva Elite, Nissan K11,K12, Prius and he is expert on almost all the brands of vehicles.

Harry (aq) also commented on the same person.

Hi guys,

I'd like to share my experience with one mechanic. I have had one encounter with him and that was quite a positive experience.

I'll first briefly explain the issue that I had. I have a Honda EK3 VI manual. I was having an idle issue, poor idle up in cold start with the engine almost dying when I switch on the A/C. The issue corrects suddenly as the temperature reaches the optimal temperature with the RPM jumping up to around 1000 suddenly. I have gone to many mechanics over a period of 2 years (14 mechanics to be exact, including 3 who are stafford employees who are known to be "Honda Experts"), with no luck. I did everything they asked, including tune ups, cleaning the throttle body, replacing temperature sensors, distributor caps, starter motor, etc, and bought and replaced the IACV two times. (Only thing I did not do was an engine swap, which turned out to be the ultimate solution of several of these experts!). After all these I was referred to this mechanic by a friend of mine.

So the mechanic is Sampath, and works in JaEla. I'm not sure about the exact directions to the place as I'm not familiar with the area and my friend took me, but I think his workshop is in the JaEla-Ganemulla Road near the Batagama Junction.

He diagnosed the problem to be in the ECU. And he repaired the ECU. Now my issue is completely resolved.

Pros:

Good for ECU stuff, knows the subject well (from what I gathered).

Doesn't take a lot of time. Took only 3 day to fix mine. He doesn't overburden himself.

Friendly fellow.

Cons:

Bit on the expensive side. Usually charges above 10K it seems.

Contact Number : 0777638371

Ps: I have had only this experience and cannot say for sure that his work is always good, but from what I have heard from some friends who got his service, his work is quite good.

Hi guys I had a major issue with my bmw e46 320d a misfire. I wasted so much money at automiraj and still the problem persisted. And one of my friends recommended Bosch Service which is done by D*MO. Excellent service made sure i was told everything that was being done to my car and the bill wasnt too bad. for that service you could say that the price was on the lower side as well! highly recommend it!

As stated in the other threads, after years I believe I found a proper mechanic.

My car: 1999 Nissan Bluebird SU14

Mechanic details:

CN Electronics - 0714898606 (Chaminda)
No.11/5/5 Weliamuna Road Hendala, Wattala, Sri Lanka

If you are going from Mattakuliya, go straight from centre road towards wattala and at the first junction (hendala junc.) take a right and after you pass a kovil, there is a road to your left called weliamuna road. Take that and keep going straight for about 1 or 2kms and you will notice a jesus statue to your right (when you near the end of the road, not in the middle), turn in and go straight. You will see a huge place filled with cars and you're there.

Or

Just ask for Chaminda bass from tuk guys in weliamuna road.

Reasons:

I've been here twice. Once, to repair my instrument cluster which broke down the second I paid the cash to the first owner. It literally stopped working precisely after I paid the cash and got in and started her up. Funny story is, I turned around to look for the guy to ask him about the issue, but he vanished into thin air. Anyway, so I spent nearly 2 to 3 months trying to repair it, by taking it to several mechanics around wellawatte, kirulapone, dehiwala, kalubowila and mount lavania. Nothing worked except for CN Electronics. I kept the car there for a couple of nights since he had other cars to finish work in. He found the issue by using proper scanning tools and did an easy swap of a significant electronic chip/part and volla!! It still works like a charm. For that he charged me 13000/= which I believe was a bit too expensive, but he sorted the issue which no one could fix at all. If not for that fix, the car would be jumping back and forth (something to do with the electronic diesel injection and the instrument cluster) at normal speeds.

Secondly, I took it last week to fix an issue which came up after I cleaned the diesel pump at another place to reduce black smoke. This guy did something to the pump and after he fixed it, the car sounded like a muscle car (which I would've loved if it actually looked like one). So I took it to Chaminda (CN Electronics) and he told me to leave it overnight to cool off the engine. I went the very next day and started her up. It sounded like as if there was an engine swap to a petrol one. So quiet and smoke free. He charged me 3500/= which I gladly gave because I was very satisfied. He found a leak inside the diesel pump which was caused by the place I took it first, so he did his magic and all is well.

So far, I've been satisfied with his work even though he might charge a little over the top. I've never gone back to complain about something he did. The down-side apart from charges, you might have to remind him now and then about your urgency to get the vehicle back.

He uses proper tools, machines and ramps to check and repair vehicles. The place looks like an auto miraj place with a bit cheaper price range.

So goodluck to whoever needs help in mechanical or electronical issues. I hope you are satisfied with this place as I am.

P.S. He will definitely ask you, how you got to know him if you visit him from a far place. So just say a guy who owns bluebird su14 from wellawatte told you. Helps me reduce my charges next time I go. LOL.

Good luck guys.

Pulling up an old post, just to see if this guy is still operational. Anyone in the area know?

Kinda forgot this thread existed for a while. Here's my recommendation for anyone looking for a good guy to fix Jaguars.

Pradeep is an ex employee of the (now former) Jaguar agents IWS and he worked there for 9 years. He has been trained as an all round technician on Jaguar as that is how Jaguar structured their technician training back then. He's most familiar with the models from the late 90s upto 2008/09 but he has worked on older and newer cars also. What I appreciate most about the guy is that he takes the time to figure out the problem and has never (to me anyway) suggested expensive replacements straight off the bat. (As I hear most Jaguar specialists in Sri Lanka seem to be fond of doing). Of course I suppose it helps that I know my car fairly well and I do my research but in 2.5 years of working with the guy I have always been very pleased with the way he does things. He also listens when I tell him about something I saw in a forum or Jag website when it comes to solving a problem and even though sometimes he feels that his method is better (and he's sometimes right), he never dismisses it out of hand as some of these "experts" seem to do.

Overall, I'm very happy with his work and his service. He can be reached on 0779701463. At the moment he visits your place and does the work but he is in the process of setting up a workshop of his own with the full load of equipment.
